I think both Honeyburst and Amberburst can look different under differing lighting conditions. Or from different eras.
No clue about that. It might be a nice feature if they added it to the original set up.
Beautiful guitars. They look clearly like Honeyburst to me, I would not mistake them for another finish.

Sadly, they're gone. The ASAT Bluesboy was my favourite (Tone and neck) guitar, but as it was over 10lbs and I wanted a Dingwall, it went ( kept my Gretsch). The SB-2 fretless went because, well, I sucked at fretless because I didn't play it enough.
Here's some typical G&L Cherrybursts. Photos can be tricky sometimes, but when seen in person it's hard to
mistake them for anything else.
And this is Old School Tobaccoburst.
It started around 1984-85 but a few front loaders made it out of the factory as late as 1989.
Yes sir, I could never pass up a deal on a tricked-up G&L. Back in the good ol' days when G&L's were dirt cheap. Remember?
Incidentally, the JB-2 above had once belonged to Frankensteinberger (Greg Silyagi), who knew the previous owner, who knew the original owner. It was an employee-built bass, hence a buncha upgrades. I kinda miss it.
Here is an LB-100 in Honeyburst I recently acquired. Barely any "Burst" at all, but I really love the finish. I do have the build sheet, which verifies the finish.

Ahh yes, L-1500 preamps can be fun. When switched on, mine sometimes received radio stations so well that I could clearly hear songs coming through my amp.
I eventually did the R7 resistor mod to eliminate the treble boost in active mode, and it was worthwhile. I liked the additional "bite" of active mode, though I mostly used passive.
In my own somewhat related aside, I'd love to try a Kiloton 5, and I suspect I'd like it with the mod that lowers the pickup's resonant frequency. But I'm just more into neck pickup tones than bridge tones, so if I get another G&L, I'm thinking L-2500. (Not that I think about it all the time, mind you. It's only about 200 times a day.

The picture doesn't do the cream guard justice. Originally I was disappointed it wasn't coming with a tort guard but this thing looks great. I haven't had a chance to play it much yet but the neck feels great.

I am definitely one of those guys who relentlessly bangs the tort drum. But I'll agree with you, that bass is beautiful.

Yeah I bought it blemished from MF and they didn't have a photo. All of the stock photos were white ones. It's crazy dealing with their customer service. It took a long time just for them to confirm whether the fretboard was rosewood or maple but nobody knew what color the guard was. So it was a pretty expensive mystery box I guess but definitely happy with the way it looks (even though tort is what I really wanted). Can't find the blem(s) anywhere.
