G&L Club Part 7

+1 for Fat Beams and MFDs. They're my favorite strings for my SB-2. Also, though I've only used them on my Fender Jazz, Sunbeams might be a good match for the Kiloton. When I had an L-1500, I wanted as much fatness as possible out of the strings, and the Sunbeams are good for that IMO.

Beautiful Bass!!
I put GHS Pressurewounds on mine (4 string). This is one of the coolest basses I've ever played. I got a number of compliments on my sound last night on a backline rig I didn't even have time to EQ.
Single coil is like linguine with white clam sauce and series is like lasagna (I like to eat)!

+1 Does a great job of taming the brightness of the bass while retaining some clarity

Also, anyone else see that Dan Lutz might start endorsing G&L basses? Saw it on his IG page. I thought it would be really cool, considering I traditionally don't know most of the people who endorse them.

Well it did not take long to get me back on board the list of rabbid G&L TBrs. All I did was look at the CLF Heritage L2000 on the @RocketMusic FB page and I was done. Now I'm listing, planning and scheming future acquisitions. Love it.

I've never heard an MAS cabinet but I have this feeling that your M.R.o.D. would make my jaw drop, and I think I have a pretty amazing M.R.o.D. myself (Genzler Magellan 350 and Barefaced One10).

Most likely not going to get close to 1500.00. Even being up front for sale about the issues you are having. Look at the classified here and do a search.

Well Ive had my all black L2000 for about 2 months and I think its time to unload it an get something else. I just cant deal with the absurd amount of fret buzz on this bass anymore. Its so bad. Ive taken it to my 2 trusted guys, even drove 70 miles to the guy I had been going to since the 90s since I moved away, and they tell me its just not a well designed bass and cant really be fixed. No matter what kind of stings I have them put on or have them keep playing with the action and whatnot, it cant be fixed.

Before I ordered it I made a post here very worried about the excessive fret buzz I had been hearing in pretty much every youtube vid of this bass, but I went with my gut and ordered it anyway thinking it cant really be that bad. And its worse than I expected. It sounds like a $300 piece of junk.

Anyway so my question is, I paid about $1700 for it. Ebony neck, 3-way series parallel upgrade... what would be a fair asking price for this? Its in mint condition. Is $1500 reasonable, or too high since it is used?

FYI, you can't discuss prices unless you are a supporting member. I don't care, but a mod might.

@CygnusZero Sorry that it's not working out for you. That said, as someone who has had 7 US and 3 Tribute G&Ls, I'm really surprised that you're having trouble dialing out fret buzz. Can I ask what your preferred setup is and what you're playing now where you have your preferred set up and no buzz?

Have you tried different strings on it to see if that makes a difference? Might be worth a shot if you like the bass otherwise.

Then drove it down to my old guy and had a different set of Daddarios put on, close to the same gauge it came with. He set it up and it was exactly the same so I put the effort in to get it fixed and its not working out. I really dont want to keep dumping money into trying to get this fixed. Its cost me a couple hundred already.

I wouldnt say that I have a preferred set up. I just buy basses, take them to the guys I trust to get them set up and I just roll with that. I adjust to whatever Im playing. Not picky with that at all, but am very picky with fret buzz. I really feel like this is something inherent to the design of these basses because like I said I cant even find a single video on all of youtube of these L2000s with no buzz. Maybe they exist I have no idea, but this sure seems to be a very common issue with these. I just dont really want to jump through a lot of hoops to get this figured out when I can see that it is common to them.

Ive been playing for almost 30 years but I dont know a lot about how basses are built or how to fix problems like this myself. I prefer to just take it to my guys and let them do it. The guy I go to now used to build instruments for Gibson so he knows his stuff and even he cant fix it.

You can hear it really well here when he demos it, and this guy has a super light plucking style, and its STILL pretty bad. I play a bit harder than this so you can imagine what this thing sounds like. Really horrible.

Its a shame because I do like the sound and flexibility of the bass a lot. I throw the switch to the neck pickup and throw some distortion on and it sounds exactly like an old Rush ricky. Flip it back, crank the treble a bit and it has more of a clean Wal type sound. Its a nice bass but the neck on it is not great. If the problem even is the neck I have no idea but when I watch 15 vids of this bass on youtube and all of them have a lot of buzz, I feel like it has to be something in the design of it. Is this common in older L2000s before Leo passed?

It's a new Bass, no?
If there is indeed something wrong with it why not contact the dealer? Or G&L customer service? Seems like you've tried a bunch of things but not the correct thing.

Is this buzzing with the bass plugged in or just acoustically unplugged?
You said you've been "banging around on it".
Have you considered your technique?
That may seem like an odd question but this reminds me of the gent who bought himself a new Dingwall Combustion and just couldn't get along with it after playing P basses for years. He had major issues with not being able to set it up for the way "he" played.
He eventually gave up and sold it even though there was nothing wrong with it as a Bass.
