G&L Club Part 7

I've owned both, and still own a bunch of older (1981-1984) G&Ls. Build quality is excellent! I once had a newer L2000 Tribute that didn't do it for me, but in retrospect I should have tried different strings on it. On the other hand, these older G&Ls are just awesome. I have them set up with a variety of stainless rounds, nickel rounds, and flats, and every single one of them sounds great.

Jealous! Do the early L2k's really sound different than the modern ones? I own a 2016 and I can't imagine anything being much better tonally haha!

It's hard to say. My only experience with a modern L2k was that one Tribute I briefly owned but never bonded with. I wonder if I had tried different strings if I would have liked it better.

My two L2000 Series E are set up identically with DR Hi Beams. One is a 1981 and the other is an '82. Both sound amazing. I have a pair of first gen SB-2s ('83, I think), which have two single coil pickups. The blue one wears rounds, the sunburst wears flats (Chromes). I kinda like the sound of flats on the SB-2. The '84 El Toro has stainless rounds and sounds monstrously huge.

It is a black G&L L2000 made in Indonesia in 2007. Maple neck with rosewood fingerboard. The electronics works just fine and I really like the amount of tonal options. Here there are some more pics (thumbnails):

To be honest I've been mostly impressed by how comfortable is this neck to play. I was used to a nice but first price Eko and the change felt like night and day.
