Just picked this up from US Ebay. My first foray into L2000 territory but it looks insane. Will take a week or 2 to arrive. Will post again when I get it.
Hey all - as I mentioned earlier this is my first entry into owning a G and L. have a few friends with older L2000s which has sold me. I just have a random question - do the older pre 2000s models have a slightly different body shape? I've never seen a newer L2000 in the flesh but pics seem to show a very slight difference. Just wondering if this is common knolwedge, or whether I have just lost the plot?
Also have a few questions in relation to the pots as I find conflicting info. Sorry if covered 100 times already! I understand the pots are volume, treble and bass. Do the bass and treble work in passive mode? I have read that the pots are passive, therefore they only cut bass and treble in both active and passive modes. Is this correct?
School me folks! All the Youtube clips leave my jaw on the ground tone wise.

yes. not sure the year they changed, but the older L-series basses had a wider waist than the current models.

And you are correct about the pots, but you really won't miss anything from the lack of boost. With the MFD humbuckers, the task is to tame them, not to boost them. It takes a little getting used to, but works really well.
I read somewhere that the pots boost somewhat in active mode. They have no center though. I don't know if anyone here can clarify if that is true or not.
For all L Series basses the pots are passive and cut only in all 3 modes.
Passive mode - just the tone and volume controls, no output buffer.
Active mode - as Passive with an output buffer/preamp.
Active with Treble Boost mode - the preamp adds treble boost.
I've had my USA m2500 for about a week now. Black Ice -- swamp ash with maple neck at a light 9.25 lbs.
I've been playing bass about 3 years now so don't have wide ranging experience on different instruments.

I have a Zon Standard Sonus and have played various Lakland models at my local independent music store.
The M2500 fits me like it was custom made for me. I can't imagine a better fit and feel.
It feels a little small compared to what I'm used to, but that suits me and works in a lot more playing positions -- including bad posture on the couch.
I was hoping for a neck feel and string spacing on a par with the Zon and its there -- and if anything on the maple neck just a little slicker and smoother.
The electronics are outstanding -- a lot wider useful control than the Zon or any other bass I've been on.
The pickups to my mind have a nicely balanced response between light playing or digging in; they seem to pick up everything.
It came with D'addario XLS strings. I don't usually like rounds, but I'm hesitating to take these off because they sound so amazing - a lot of bottom and low mids for round strings. It may be just great pickups.
I want to get pressure wounds on there to hear what they would sound like.
So I'm very happy. I got a good price from Bassplace in Az. not as good as on the used standard Zon through TB classifieds but good enough to feel even better about spending that kind of money in exchange for this bass.

Eds clips sound good. Theres another video... with a maple neck... not so much
The LB-100 sounds the best IMO & I think it even beats the Carvin PJ I have on order when comparing JUST the P pickup.
So MJ-4 owners? Where are you? Any more clips than just Eds?

Doing a search on the tube for some L1500 examples I stumbled across this kid. He plays great and his L1500 sounds wonderful. Check out his other vids.
