Clear red was one of their very first bass colors (along with clear blue, clear green, and natural). It's a stunning color that ages to a mellow mahogany over enough time. ...very nice!

First time poster on this thread. I have a 1983 L-200 with the original headstock design and powder-coat hardware (i'l post photos). I wasn't playing it much in the 90's, so I stupidly "borrowed" the original series 1 pre-amp PCB to use on another active electronics bass project. The pickup selector, coil tap, and pots all function per original, but the active switch is just a dummy now. I'd like to restore the bass as close to original as I can. I know there have been several newer versions of the preamp over the years. Does anyone know of a source for an original series 1 preamp, or one of the later one? I'd rather not buy (even I could find one) the whole original wiring harness just to get the preanp. Any suggestions?

It says they are compatible with L series basses, don't know if there is any signifcant difference between this version and the original that would matter. Any circuit-heads out here who can set me straight? I'd hate to buy the thing and it doesn't work.

Here is my beauty. 2011 SB-1 with single volume knob and 1 1/2" nut. Spanish Copper Metallic. Love this thing, unfortunately I have to sell her 
Ahhh that looks just like my 2008 L2K. Great color combo. Congrats! Mine has the #8 neck and special K wiring. Does anyone know when G&L started moving the string tree closer to the end of the headstock?

The clear red on mine looks insane. Unfortunately the neck has a slight but definite ski ramp. The action is fine but the last 2 or 3 frets choke out.
Hopefully at this stage I can get away with just filing down the last few frets.

i once had a cheap yamaha bass that did the same thing. a little trick for that is shimming the headstock end of the neck pocket. i was still able to get the action i liked and it provided enough clearance that those upper notes didn't choke out.
Do the new generations of G & L basses have the neck-tilt adjustment screw? My old 83' L2000 has an allen set screw in the neck bolt plate that allows for neck-tilt adjustment, which might cure the choking out in upper frets. if not, you may have to shim it as dedpool1052 suggests.
I've shimmed the neck which has fixed the G string saddle not having enough adjtstnent, but now with a decent action the last few frets choke. When I look down the neck the ski ramp is slightly there so I'll just have to see what my luthier can do.
