That's a good idea. A skilled luthier may be able to cure the ski jump. Michael Dolan fixed a nasty jump on my L-1000 when he did a refret for me. Don't know how he did it, as we never discussed that aspect of the job. He may have heat-treated the neck, dunno. I only know that he did not plane the fretboard. Anyway, the bass came back playing great with no jump. Been that way for 10 years. The key is to get the right person to do the work. Good luck.
Here's my old warhorse, an 83' L2000 with the original headstock design. I was grinding through the finish with pick scratches, so I made an 1/8" thick ebony pickguard for it about a year after I got it. This thing saw a lot of use over the years, still in pretty good shape. The preamp fried at some point, trying to figure if a replacement from G & L will work. Everything else is stock, never had a lick of trouble with it in thirty years. This one has the micro-tilt in the neck pocket. An outstanding piece of Leo Fender engineering in every respect.

The first time I ever heard about G&L was in an interview with a now-defunct Australian rock band, Silverchair. Their bass player had a whole range of G&Ls. His sound was always huge.
I am really pleased with my new L2500 Tribute. I got it for a bargain, and at the same time was seriously considering a Lakland 55-01. Glad I went with the G&L, though.
The stock strings are too bright, and I'm waiting for a set of Chromes to arrive from Bass Strings Online. I'm really keen to hear it with less string noise.
Anyone handing out numbers?

I played mine last night with new strings and the bass sounds phenomenal. Bassy, punchy, clear and articulate. And tough!

I don't think the preamps have changed over the years. My preamp was a version 1.0, they are up to 1.3. it looks like the same number of wires coming off it, even the same color code. Pricey little PCB! Anybody got a used one kicking around they might sell?
going to use the 2011 sb-2 to record 3 songs tonight for eyeforsound.com and the hammer museum, hopefully i can sell my flying v reissue so i can keep my black 83 L2k, or maybe some people will buy some more art this summer
