$500 is bad spot to be for a bassist nowadays. You can get a kazoo to play while you're waiting for the LB-150, which you're going to want.Oh I'm not advocating deception!
I'm lucky enough to have a wife that views us both as equals when it comes to spending decisions. We don't need the other's permission to buy anything. That said, we discuss any large purchases with each other ($500+) to avoid dredging the savings too deep
They can make everything in empress when the wood is available, but currently, they don't have anything else than a few JB and JB5 empress models in their factory stock (as of April 27).

That's perfect! Great color combo and set up... I love the surf themed stuff!! Yeah even on my fenders I always had to mod the bridge cover to fit over the Badass... but it goes pretty smooth. Not sure it would even clear a saddle lock though.

People who like G&L basses are pals, fellow flakes are family! It takes a real nut to love it, but it reminds me of the old dune buggies from the 70's

I'm pretty careful with my instruments, but so far I haven't had any dings. It sure is pretty wood.
I try to be careful but stuff keeps getting in my way and so my instruments take a fairly good amount of bumps. That said, my empress body has no dings at all... and there have been a few moments, after a particularly sharp hit, where I've cringed before looking, only to be pleasantly surprise at the lack of any damage.
Man, I loved the Banana Splits! That was one of the many seriously trippy shows back then
... that explains so much about me now.... 
Right. The result is an extra hole in the body for the jack.
Ditto. I don't like the look of the third knob at the narrow end of the pick guard, and I do like being able to see the jack when plugging in.
