Hello G&L gurus
Have any of you added a coil cutting switch to your M series basses?

No, and not that I couldn't. The M's character is a warm, humbucking sound which is well-matched with the always-active preamp. Unlike my L where I added the K mod for inner coils, I can't see where I would want to cut back the already slightly underwound character of the M 'buckers for a thinner, single coil sound.

To be honest in my head the thoughts that comes to mind is not 'thinner' even though it does do that, but rather a tone with more cut a little 'Gank' factor so to speak.

After seeing enough of your posts and a few videos, I think I have a pretty good handle on your tastes when it comes to tone.
If you like the M-series preamp but want more cut and gank from it, I would offer up a couple of mods to get you there.
First, replace the stock pickups with L-series humbuckers. I feel the L-series pickups in SCM is a full enough tone without needing to go into either series or parallel, so I would wire them to a 2-way switch that selects either inner or outer coils. To me, outers would get you into a sort of '70s fender type sound, while inners would be similar to the "avanti" spacing of your signature. Second, I'd add a series/parallel switch that uses both pickups. you switch it to inner coils and flip it into series and you have something pretty close to "your" sound.

That actually sounds awesome.

@dedpool1052 I can honestly say that the pickups in these basses (to me) have something in common with Dimarzio Model J pickups. In that series might almost might not be needed. The output is huge and there is a solid amount of lower mids nicely built in.
One of my other thoughts were adding 2 mini toggles, one for each pickup.
Back coil- both coils (standard of course)-front coil

Hhhmmmm both ideas sound cool to me
I'm so OCD when I fall in and I recoded with the M2500 last night and it sound great I'm just thinking of the mix cutting times (which is often for me).

Me personally I prefer tighter but Steve wants a wider version.

I'm not too fussy on string spacing but if it is too tight I can't use my large fingers so need to resort to a pick.

I play anything from a Violin bass - 15mm, played with a pick, to a DB - 25mm but it needs a completely different technique.

I too prefer tighter spacing on a fiver,
but I'm sure there's quite a few people that would prefer a 19mm string spacing option.

The (to me) narrow spacing on the G&L5 is the only reason I sold my L2500 many years ago - have been playing 19mm ever since. Naturally, I'd love to see a wider-spaced G&L 5-er personally.

If you're batting around ideas and passing them along, now that there's a 5-string Kiloton, how about a 5-string SB-1/2? All they'd need is the pickup. I know LB-100 people also want a 5-string version.

I'm mainly a 4-string guy, and want to like the 5s, but my M2500 largely sits in its case because of the ergonomics and string spacing. So yeah, 19mm on a 5 would be welcome.

I did it on my M2500.
Schematics supplied by @TorBass (a TB member).
Dual switches, one for each pickup.
Two DPDT on-on-on mini toggle switches.
Outer coils.
Outputs go to the blend pot (balance).
If you want one switch only, use a 4PDT on-on-on.
