G&L Club Part 7

So, the used M2K Tribute I ran across on Reverb ($399 w/case) showed up today. I wasn't exactly looking for one but I'm a sucker for binding and have always been a bit curious about the M's.

To be honest, I was expecting a mild mannered, nerdy brother to the "bad boy" L2K. Like Clark Kent to Superman. I was not expecting a wolf in sheeps clothing!

The M has some serious in your face punk balls! The bottom is so massive yet tight, punchy and articulate... like Bruce Lee meets Mike Tyson. I've never named a bass before but I think this one will be known as "Storm Shadow", love me some 80's G.I. Joe!

Good to know. I'm at a point in life where I'm shying away from active stuff, but some day I'll probably need one, and that seems like a great candidate. Yo Joe!!!! You should have Snake Eyes painted on it!

According to your earlier post regarding slap & pop, dee dee and sid, we may have very much in common in our taste for the bass. The whole modern bass tone and aesthetic has never really appealed to me. Its probably due to growing up around my moms ska band in the late 70s and early 80s. All the Clash, Police, Madness & BMW may have hardwired my brain to associate bass tone to a Pbass. That being said, the M2K is SO MUCH FUN TO PLAY!! Tons of growl and punch! I'm sure the SB300's muscular headroom has something to do with it as well. I will have to reevaluate my opinion that all those 18v preamped Sunday morning jazz basses can't get all trashy and gritty

put a battery in the 84 L2000 for the first time in a very long time, liking both pickups with the treble boost and the ti flats for kind of a heavy rock 90s thing, it's fun to do something different than the very old dunlop nickels in passive sound i usually go with

SweeT! Glad to hear it... That music and style doesn't get enough credit. Like Adam Clayton, it's always labeled repetitive and lacking, but when you get down to it, it's not easy to do. Stamina, timing, and accuracy seem overlooked, and they're deceptively difficult.

I will say that when I noodle in the music store, people snicker and laugh at my ramones tinkering, and then when they come out to play against me or see my band, they're asking to buy a tshirt.

Since they never leave the house, these kids hit up youtube and learn some hip lick, and then they showcase it at the local GC on saturday... While it sounds great, it can't stand up to a 45 song setlist, all the while running around like a nut, and in my case, singing at the same time.

No one ever gave me any credit as a bassist, but everyone wants to play with me, so I guess that's a compliment. Granted I'm no @Kriegs mr fancy pants 5 string player.

If you like Misfits, Ramones, Blondie, Clash, Sex Pistols, Narcoleptic Youth, New Bomb Turks... thats us! Now if I could just get some reliable guitar player I'd be king!
