Two questions, Chef, please:
Did you buy your guard from G&L?
Do G&L pickguards generally line up better than Fenders do? I had a heck of a time getting genuine USA pickguards to line up with my Am. Precision. Same problem with my MIM P.

You guys really have me drooling. I have nothing but love for my L-2500 but now i'm GASsing for binding.

The natural wood "binding" is such a cool touch of class especially on their burst finishes. Love it.

My #1. Traded an L-1505 for it here. Someone installed a third pickup right at the neck, but another previous owner removed it and filled the hole with a maple block. Looks terrible up close. Might refin the body soon.

I took my Interceptor to the band practice space and I have played it in the last three rehearsals. The drummer likes it because of the top-end clarity as opposed to my Precision-style "normal" basses. Might take my El Toro there too, to compare. That one is set up perfectly.

So are you an orange fan too, or is it just a coincidence? I've been collecting orange basses for well over 25 years, and G&L has a lot of them.

Didn't pursue those, they were just what fit me best when I was shopping to compare the two models.

Your fingers go where the fret lines are.

Not to bore you all,with the Asat,I just got,but finding out more this is not a true fretless,as it was advertised? Which is fine,with me just wish full disclosure had been made? This was a fretted bass originally,the side dots,and the center fret dots,are all in alignment. So if I understand I can note the same way,as I would a fretted neck,because the neck is not setup as a fretless,other than it is minus the metal frets. Hope you understand my not knowing that much about how the fretless basses necks are marked? So after I was made aware of that from discussing this on bassesbyleo website,that is my conclusion. I plan on keeping the bass,just may go ahead and put metal frets back on the neck.

Agreed. I have a defretted L-1500 and the dots don't bug me at all—just cues as they serve on a fretted bass. On an unlined neck, though, you want the dots where the note will sound.

I have played USA and Tribute 2500, 2000 and Kilotons. To someone that plays G&L's all the time, I can hear a slight overall difference between USA and Tributes and I don't have a preference for one over the other. TO me they are just slightly different flavors of awesome Another bassist friend of mine can't tell the difference between USA and Tribute versions in a blind test. Yet another friend consistently prefers the Tribute tones over the USA in that same blind test. So, as I'm always reminded, tone is subjective.

I have a Tribute L2500 (and a USA JB2), but have played the USA L2500 in a shop. The sound was very similar, but the feel was different. The USA version just felt....better. The bass was lighter and the neck slimmer being the biggest differences. It practically played itself. I could see upgrading someday if I find a deal on a USA model.

Sweet! Is it my imagination or is that more or less the standard color for an SB-2? Just to be clear, I'm NOT complaining. They look fantastic in that finish.

I've thought more and more that the SB-2 is a bass I'd really like. Lordy help me if they ever decide to make a five-string version .....

CAR + white pickguard + maple is about as classic as it gets, IMO. It's my "sunburst and tort."

So far, so good. I played it while practicing this evening, the first serious playing since I bought it, and it felt and sounded good. Light weight but not too light. I love the feel of the neck. Very comfortable for my hand. Solid B string. I'm about to replace the stock strings with a set of Hi-Beams as they are more to my taste. The stock strings while sounding good do not feel great to me. Plus I always change strings when I get a bass. Once done, I'm good to go.
