From the inside (first fret side) of the nut to the center line of the pickup: L1000 = 28.5". L1500 = 30.75". I don't have a Kiloton but I think it uses the same pickup location as the L1500, subject to check.

Thanks! Yes, I thought the kiloton and the L1500 shared the same pickup location, but I was unsure. If anybody else wants to weigh in on that, I'd appreciate it.

I got my JB about 10 days ago. It's empress and very light. It's also got a 12" radius fretboard and I now MUCH prefer that over the standard 9.5" radius on my other 2 G&L's. But the other two aren't going anywhere. The LB-100 is a MONSTER P-bass...absolute MONSTAH!! And the Kiloton, while I'm still figuring it out 6 months after getting it, is a beast of it's own.

Maybe we've started a trend? Basses by couch!

I am almost set, the final piece would be a fretless LB-100 in either Fullerton Red or Whiskey. I've had a fretless SB-2 and JB-2 and they were great but I couldn't get the fretless tone that was in my head which is an upright style tone. I think the fretless LB-100 will do the trick.

And if you haven't already, try throwing some flats on the Kiloton, it brings out a whole new monster!

There use to be better pics, but they seem to have disappeared.
Long ago, someone installed a second pickup on an L-1500 in the L-1000 position.

I like the concept, and if G&L hadn't discontinued the L-1500, I was planning on doing the same.
I already love my L-1000s, and use to own an SR5, which I loved the throaty tone of that pickup position.
The idea of combining the L-1000, with a second MFD in the SR position for a fuller sounding bridge pickup, sounds like a great idea.

Yep that's the idea. I would just buy a L2000, but when I tried it out, the bridge pickup was too thin sounding.

Today I wired up a jig and moved the pickup around to see what sounds I liked best. I definitely want my front pickup to be in the normal pbass/L1000 position at 28.5". For the bridge pickup, I'm actually favoring the Stingray position of 30.5" over the L1500 position of 30.75". The 30.5" position seems to be the optimal place for the throaty kick in the chest type of sound. The 30.75 seems just a tad too thin, though this is really splitting hairs.

I look forward to seeing the project bass when it's finished.
Not sure if you're using MFDs or not, but the good thing about them is they're narrower than either a P or MM pickup, so centering the MFDs in the P/MM positions would not be a problem.

Yep I'm using MFDs. That's why I posted in the G&L thread! Anyways I just did some quick calculations and if I put the MFDs in the pbass/MM positions, there will only be about 3/8 inch of wood in between the two routes! I'm probably going to have to put the rear pickup at the kiloton/L1500 position so that it ends up being about 5/8 inch between the two pickups. What are your thoughts?

Either one works to me.
If you're worried about the amount of wood between, just go with the Kilo/L-1500 position.

I've never played a fretless SB-1, but a fretless SB-2 I used to have was the best sounding solidbody electric fretless I've ever had! I sold it to a friend when I got a fretless Rob Allen and he still has it.

I've had a fretless L-2000 and a fretless Stingray, but that SB-2 really sounded and felt great!
