It's an '83.Hey Dav. Yep it's a pickup selector. It's probably an '84 based on the serial. This was the first generation of SB-2 made from about '82-'84. At that time they also made an SB-1 that is just the neck single coil with a smaller control plate. I believe the current PJ version of the SB-2 was released in '87 or something like that.
There was another version of the first gen SB-2 in the mid 80s called the Lynx. It had contours and was available with rosewood fretboards as well as maple.
Shhhhh... don't anyone tell him about the hidden gold in the 1999 body cavitiesOk so the G&L Bass which I got is a 1999 G&L L2000. Was this a good year and also compared to the newer editions are the pups or pre different ?

It's an '83.![]()
I have a 2000 L2000 that's probably pretty similar. It smokes. But I do prefer my '89.
Pickups on the '00 tend to be a little hotter, the bass is transitional in that it's an early 6-bolt neck joint and narrower waist on the body with the older bi-cut neck. Body is a little thicker, too. The '00 also has the current series/parallel vs the older "humbucking/single coil with bass boost" (aka OMG) switching. The pre does get revised periodically, but I don't think it's too discernible.

Ahhh yes I didn't even think of that. The one on the left is the '89. Just has the color scheme of your '99. Note the black crinkle bridge on mine vs chrome on yours.
This is a CLF so the headstock is a little different. She's insanely beautiful! Is there no "eye gouger" on the headstock?
