I am one of those rare units that loves the eye gouger headstock and dislikes the original lawsuit one. Would love some CLF action with an eye gouger!
I thought I'd share this in case anyone finds it useful. I made it because I was curious about the relative position of the Kilo pickup compared to the L2000 pickups, and it sort of spiraled from there.
All the pics are current images from G&Ls website except for the El Toro.
I aligned the nut and 12th frets as well as I could (gray lines) and indicated the locations of the Jazz pickups in the JB (blue lines) and P pickup in the LB100 (red line) to use as a reference. You can see where all the pickups are relative to those.
Accuracy is pretty good as limited by photo quality and my ability to shift the pics around in tiny increments in ppt.
This image makes it clear why the neck pickup in my El Toro sounds passably like a P bass.

Does anyone know if these have 60s or 70s pickup spacing?
And if TB has taught us anything, it'll be perfectly safe to order one of the turquoise mist tribby's because, by now, G&L must have taken care of all the issues that they were having, right?!?!So I saw. Hmm

So when I ordered mine back in Auguest/September of last year MF told me there was only 1 batch order in their system for these and that they would NOT be reordering them. So I don't know if this was a limited run or something. And if TB has taught us anything, it'll be perfectly safe to order one of the turquoise mist tribby's because, by now, G&L must have taken care of all the issues that they were having, right?!?!

Hello all of you G&L aficionados and addicts. Has anyone heard if G&L plans on making a special run of basses to commemorate their 40th anniversary this year (2020)? G&L did a special run for their 35th anniversary; those emerald green JB's were gorgeous! If there's something special coming in 2020 for their 40th anniversary then I need to start saving my pennies now!
Regarding the 40th Anniversary basses, there is one being made as a normal USA build (i.e. NOT custom shop). Here are the details on that:
SB-1 Clear Red
Okume body
Pearl pickguard
Maple or Caribbean rosewood fretboard
40th on headstock
These will be made in limited quantities (less than 50, I think?), and they'll be advertised for $1799.99.
They are also doing some 40th anniversary stuff through the Custom Shop, though I must admit I've been unable to get a good answer on exactly what that looks like. Not sure if you can get different models or what? Oh, and the price is so hefty that I just stopped asking questions. $4999 is the street price on those...
Let me know if you have any other questions about any of that, I'd be happy to inquire further. So far I have not ordered any of these 40th anniversary instruments, but I'd be happy to do so as a special order.
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure a black L2500 compatible bridge does not exist. Only 5 string with black crinkle hardware was L5000. It is likely impossible to find (they only made around 400 of them) and not the right spacing anyway.
oh wow...that is stunning!
I love G&L like no other. I own a tribute, a 30-yr old USA, a new USA, and a Custom Shop. $5k is not a realistic for a G&L bass at this time, custom shop or otherwise.$4999 is the street price on those...
