I'm not fond of the idea of removing the MFDs from an L-2000, not a fan of tort or pickguards where they don't belong, and not really a Jazz fan. But I find this strangely alluring...
I love the concept, and have thought an MFD "quad-coil" or "X-coil" would be awesome. It would be like this Sims, except an MFD, and therefore better (to us G&L freaks anyway):

This was basically my idea.
The whole problem is the custom size of the MFD. Putting in the G&L split coil would require me to cut into the body. And nobody who makes pickups who's not G&L has a pickup cover the exact size of the MFD soapbar.
But I really have an attachment to my specific L2K (had a trade up for a SB-2 for awhile and just couldn't do it). So maybe that's just it...
I don't recall specifically but this is what I usually play
Strings: DR Pure Blues 40-100
Settings:
Both pickups
middle switch is in the middle position (I think it's in single coil mode as i have the k-switching electronics, not sure..)
Preamp active
Treble rolled off probably half
bass full
AMP:
Flat with boosted mids
A guy did this to an L1500....I dig it....not that I have really helped with an outcome......
G&L pickups on a non-G&L bass...?

I don't know if you guys are into modern Pop music, but Dua Lipa just dropped an album with some KILLER bass lines
Shes has a lot of resonance and sounds very nice when played unplugged. The sound is pretty good too with the Alembic pickups and preamp, with a lot of precision and a wide spectrum... But it's far from the full and aggressive MFD sound a stock L-2000 can produce !
Is that an ebony board? Ebony boards are the best. Very nice bass.
Yeah, I have thought about getting the Irish ale Tribby and adding in a QP '51 P pickup that I have laying around.
I am not 100% sure, but I think so. Did not get the build sheet with it. I will be contacted G&L with serial number to have it sent.
I think an HS config is the way to go, and I considered it when I had an L-1500. I was thinking DiMarzio Model J, because that's a ceramic mag high output pickup that might work with the MFD. It's also hum-canceling, so it would work nicely on its own.

Does anyone know if getting an L-2000 without any body contour is a custom shop option? I don't see any info about it on their website.
