G&L Club Part 7

Just joined the G&L club. Hope to have it in my possession by early next week!View attachment 3807949 View attachment 3807949
That's a beautiful bass! And the markerless fretboard is a nice tweak. Subtle, just a little bit different.

My L-2500 has a markerless maple fretboard and I love the look of it. Almost all of my basses have had dots, but dots always seemed too middle of the road to me. For some reason I love blocks or markerless fretboards, but I've never actually owned a bass with blocks, though.

...Yet. :D

Anyone got Rally Red CLF L-1000? I usually really dig red basses, but I'm still on the fence which color Wunkay to get (CLF vesion).

I'm quite curious about the Royal Purple too but I generally don't like sparkly finishes. Old school tobacco burst is very nice, but my P is already sunburst so I'm not sure if I want another similar finish. Natural is classic too, but those are usually heavier due to ash bodies.

I kind of wish they did a darker red/transparent red with a rosewood neck. Like the old classic ones. Like their LB-100 in Whiskey over empress, that would look killer on a Wunkay.

No, I actually just bought it from a guy on Reverb. It has all of the custom order paperwork with it. It's a 2017 with the Old School Tobacco Sunburst finish, has a quartersawn maple neck with Rosewood board and no dots.

Hmm...that's a nice finish choice—and yes it's quartersawn.

I'm not in the market at the moment, but totally agree. Red is usually my preference, but the Rally Red is kind of meh, at least from photos online. I'm actually kind of digging the blue burst, and I usually don't gravitate toward blue basses.

That said, this is my L-1000:

Hey all...just picked up my second Fullerton Kiloton to join the family. I LOVE this bass...the body size and shape, the simple controls but with a ton of tonal variety for a single pickup, the neck action and playability...oh, did I say I LOVE this bass?

Anyway, can I get a club number?

Also, I noticed that the knobs are different. My sunburst, built in late 2016, has rounded tops while the white one, built in early 2017, has hard edges. Are they both original?

Anyway, love this bass. Thinking of adding an SB-1 or SB-2 since the body is the same. I would love to see G&L produce more basses with this body but if not, I'm quite content with my instruments.

Any other Kiloton lovers out there???

I'm a big fan of the Kiloton, especially my fretless. I'm not much of a fretless player (so need to improve my technique), but I love noodling on this bad boy.

That is a sexy beast. Beauty.

I would add that I'm not much of a fretless player OR 5 string player. I bought a cheap fretless and talk about a humbling experience. I tried recording with it and figured I would blow up Melodyne trying to get everything in tune. Sold that bad boy and haven't looked back.

I bet it sounds really good in single coil mode.

Single coil mode is my favorite.

I did post some samples of it a couple years back. You can check them out in this post: G&L Kiloton 5 Fretless Samples.
Thanks for the link. I listened and I love the growl of the single coil. Just to be clear, that's the back of the three position switch, yes? Middle is serial and forward is parallel? Not that the actual names matter much, just set to what your ears like.

I just started using Studio One and like it very much. Still looking for a good online video lesson for it. I've gone through the Presonus ones and they are just ok.

Towards the neck is series, middle is single, and towards the bridge is parallel. That's assuming you haven't twisted the toggle switch. ;-)

Try Joe Guilder's Home Studio Corner. He was doing Studio One videos before he joined Presonus.

Nice! :)
I think the knobs on the white one are original? They look like the ones that are on my USA L2K.
Hope this helps,
Brent

But if you look at Edgetone's red fretless above, it looks to have rounded tops. The build sheet on both basses says "Knurled Dome-top Chrome" so it's a mystery to me.
Well, looks like they have both. So I'm wondering if the white one was either changed out or incorrectly identified on the build sheet.

This is not something I'm losing sleep over but I love little mysteries, especially when just a curiosity. And in these times, lord knows I've got some time on my hands. :)
