There was an online forum called badassbassplayers (or BABP for short) who had a special run L1000 made, if I recall. They may have had other special run basses made as well. They still exist on the facebook:

Well, looks like they have both. So I'm wondering if the white one was either changed out or incorrectly identified on the build sheet.
This is not something I'm losing sleep over but I love little mysteries, especially when just a curiosity. And in these times, lord knows I've got some time on my hands.

Are these removable?
Funnily enough, I looked at them knowing full well they are removable. But I discovered that the rounded top knobs are removed with a small flat tip screwdriver. The flat knobs are removed with a hex key (same size as pole pieces and saddle height adjustment).
nice collection, but that L-2000 is one of my favorites.
Thanks TDR! Noteworthy from a functional perspective is the neck is amazingly stable and never developed fret sprout. I've never had a bass that didn't develop at least some sprout after spending time in Denver.
That blue one is beautiful. Let me know if you ever want to sell it!
I certainly will sir! Do you ever miss it, or is the burst one sufficient for all your single coil MFD needs?
Lately I have been messing with compression and found that the old SB2 shines with a somewhat heavier dose of it. It shines! Like Shiny McShine.
I didn't think I would like white, but I love it. I have a vintage white Sandberg California and the white white Kiloton (Kayton). Love them both.
Well, for what it's worth, I spent 6 years in Denver, plus another 6 in Salt Lake City, and never had any fret sprout issues with my L-2000...
I do indeed! But I miss almost every bass I've ever sold (except for that &^%@*#^ Kramer with the aluminum neck). The 'burst JJ SB-2 keeps me out of trouble. The blue one is a little nicer.

The picture in that post of my fretless L2K is cropped from a picture of my small (but nice) bass collection. The entire picture is below. The bass on the far left is a 1979 Music Man Sabre bass. The amp and cabinet behind the Sabre bass are my Music Man HD150 head on top of a 212RH cabinet. I picked that rig up in 1980. On the far right is my newest bass, a G&L SB2T next to my SB2 tribute (what a great bass for $300 used!!). My 1966 Ampeg B18N is sitting behind those basses. Those Portaflexes sat on wheels, so the MM cabinet sitting next to it appears shorter in the photo. From what I recall, the 115RH cabinets were the same size (or at least very close) as the 212RH cabinets
Oh, I'd forgotten that Ampeg made a B18. But even then, that 212RH cab was a little short to be a 115. (I've just dug my late 70's Rock 'n' Roll stack out from under all the garage detritus, so it caught my eye.)
Nice variety in that harem -- 12's or an 18 -- and I bet you can get a lot of different tones out of those 4 going into that pair.

I try not to dwell on the past with sold basses. The ones I regret selling are rare, which is why I had to have a JJ-2 again. Anyways, she is in good hands!
Thanks. There is a Red L1000 from the 2008 BABP run (at least it's S/N is in the range per the G&L Registry) for sale on Reverb right now. Kinda interesting that it has the side jack/no control plate.

No kidding, I didn't realize you lived here for a while. So you know the dryness here is brutal. The L2K neck is still like the day I got it.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed on the PJ SB-2. I got it a few months ago so it could still develop sprout. I really hope not due to the binding though.
From 2007-2013. Out near the Aurora reservoir/Southlands area. I really didn't mind the dryness, never had much of an issue with any of my instruments, really. Maybe had a few where I had to take the fret ends down a tiny bit. I do miss living there.
