I had one and hated it. My brother had a Telecaster at the time, which I loved the looks of and I liked the tone and pickup options of the L-2000. What could go wrong, right? I ordered mine with a double bound body. It was extremely uncomfortable - the lower body dug into my leg while sitting and the upper body rubbed my forearm while standing. On top of that, the shorter upper horn changed the reach of the instrument when wearing it adding to my discomfort. It was a beautiful bass but for me an L-2000 makes much more sense. Sounded great though!

It’s everything you’d want in an L-2000 with added cost, discomfort and neck dive. Oh, and it kinda looks like a Tele. Still, I wanted one until I had one and then wondered what the heck I was thinking.:eyebrow:

I'm pretty agnostic too. All my G&Ls have different necks. L2K has the 1 3/4" 12" radius, SB-2 has the 1.5" 9.5 radius, MJ-4 1 5/8" 12" radius.

The only ones I really dislike are the super thin narrow necks like a Geddy Lee jazz bass. I just can't work the fingerboard well at the top of the neck. Need more finger flexibility or more talent. One of the two.

You can buy an SB-2 with the tone pot from the factory.

Style, effectively a L2XXX with a tele style body. Tone is therefor "Similar" Neck dive prone is an issue in some cases.
Smaller run model so each gets a higher level of attention at the factory, so average quality of fit and finish tends to be higher.
The chambered versions are obviously lighter, and have a slight sumptin sumptin in regards to the tone, chambered/lighter bodies tend to also be the neck divers.

It would be a bad-@ as a short scale (fallout) model.

Hey fellow G&L friends, thinking about adding a 5 string.

Two options are an L2500 or Kiloton 5.

I already have a L2K so conceivably, I could sell that and get the L2500.

I've never played a Kiloton though and am wondering is the sound just a subset of the L2K or is it unique?

A buddy of mine has an L2000 and a Kiloton 5. Very different sounding, the Kiloton having a more punchy low end, rock style tone, and it is different than the L on just the bridge pickup.

You might want to also look at the M2500. Love mine, lots of tone, the sleeper/unsung hero in the G&L lineup. Very much a hi-fi sound compared to the L or Kiloton.

The ASAT is a bass you should really try before buying. As mentioned the ergos are extreme. Brace yourself for a long reach to 1st fret, and an unbalanced, neck-heavy instrument, for sure. Yes, it has a Tele style body, but that's a Tele guitar-style body with a 34" scale neck attached to it. Some players definitely like that setup, but I'd expect most would find it pretty unwieldy. I had a few, tried to love them but couldn't.

I didn't find any difference in sound between an ASAT and an L-2000, not even the semi-hollow ones. The "chamber" in the semi-hollow ASAT is small, too small to make any difference in tone. And too small to make a significant difference in weight....just a nice looking cosmetic feature IMO.

Supposedly the ASAT was Leo's fave creation, so maybe that makes it "special"? But Leo wasn't a player, so there's that.

I think Leo meant the 6-string version. I'm so trying to love ASAT bass #8 and the 3rd semi-hollow. They usually have the best necks but the only ASAT I've kept is a 6-stringer and funny it's the only non-USA G&L I've had.

Absolutely. My LB100 is more satisfying than the Fender P-basses that I've played in these last many years: lighter and prettier too. You won't be disappointed. :thumbsup:

You will love this bass. I owned a tribute version for a while and to my ears it was the best sounding bass I’d ever owned. Only sold it because I have dainty girl hands and the neck was a bit chunky for me.

I’ve owned a few p basses over the years, but was never really that big a fan of the p bass “fit in the mix” sound.
I got a US LB100 made in 2017 and am really impressed with the quality and the design.
The embedded bridge,plekked frets,6-bolt neck,all combine to make a really solid feeling instrument.
And i think the alnico pickup sounds great. There’s great note articulation with this bass which i think is the thing that makes it stand out from Fenders I’ve played.
I do think it’s one of, if not the best, iteration of a p bass you can buy.
Edit: having said that, I’d like to try out a US Kiloton, which I think would be more to my liking.

Yes, my LB-100 is the best P bass I’ve played. If you want a P bass you will not be sorry you got an LB-100. Mine was a custom order (same exact design/order as @woodyng2) but I’m sure the Fullerton Deluxe is built to the same High quality standards. And if you’re getting it for a good price then grab it fast. It’ll be the one bass you’ll never sell!
