The LB arrived about two hours ago and I immediately got to work... missed having one of these! Especially with the MFD pickup. View attachment 3890598View attachment 3890599View attachment 3890600View attachment 3890601

Maybe some day I can gig it
Do new USA SB-2s come shielded from G&L?
Considering a USA JB. How's the neck compare to fenders? It says "medium C" so I'm taking that as it's a bit chunkier like a 70s jazz? PLEKd frets sound great to me.
Way beefier than say a Lakland Skyline neck which is really thin front to back.
It's similar to my 74' J neck but not quite as bat like.
It's a bit thicker than my 73' J neck which means, while my Fenders are untouched, they are different.
I find it most similar to a Sandberg neck.
The short version is, it's the nicest J bass neck I've ever played and love the way it feels in my hands.
Got a little project started courtesy of the G&L online store ....
I picked up this neck a couple weeks ago ....

And then today I saw that this sonic blue JB2 body was added to the store, so I went ahead and got it as as well. I also bought the appropriate G&L bridge ....

So it'll be a sonic blue JB2 with rosewood board and block inlays.... and for a dirt cheap price !!!
I'm still debating what pickups to go with. I can't tell, but I "think" the JB2 tribute series bodies may have 2 Jazz pickup routes that are the same size. I'll have to measure when it arrives. Might go with something like Nordstrand Jazz Bars. Not sure. I could also rout it for soapbars easily enough ....
Anyway .... Should be a fun project. Oh, and I'll have to make a control cavity cover for it I guess...

Love Sonic Blue, and really love GL's version of the UNBOUND neck w/blocks! What are the neck specs? THAT is going to be fantastic.Love Sonic Blue, and really love GL's version of the UNBOUND neck w/blocks! What are the neck specs?
I will also just throw in my 2 cents and say I adore the sound of the GL alnico5 pickups that were standard issue on the US JB2. Mine is one of the best sounding J basses i've ever owned.
Those blocks are going to look fantastic with that body!
I never heard the Jazz Bars, but it looks like they supposed to be a jazz sound in a soapbar size unit. Not criticizing your choice, but just wondering ... why route for a soapbar when one of the Nordstrand Jazz pickups would likely fit (I admit I don't know if any would, but I'm guessing so).
FWIW, I put a set of NJS5's in a beater Frankenjazz. That bass still looks pretty crappy (an SX Jazz) but it sounds fantastic. Great sounding pickups!
