Wow that’s really nice. G&L must be one of the only companies whose import models are direct competitors of their domestic models. It’s hard to tell them apart in quality.
I wish they had more lefty options I’d probably own a crap ton of them.

Yeah I gotta say I'm super impressed with G&L as a brand. Makes me wish they had more mainstream recognition. Fit and finish are impeccable, the neck is in there rock solid with no gaps at all, and the body is a solid heavy chunk of swamp Ash. Electronics are all the same as the US models and that impresses me a ton

I think there should be a G&L Custom Orders Club so we could discuss our own special, experiences....
Actually, just the pickups are U.S.
The rest of the electronics are made overseas.
Personally, it would be nice if those experiences stayed here so our collective knowledge could run the gamut from Tribbys through Fullertons, option orders and custom shop orders. Many of us have feet in multiple of those camps.
i have sometimes eliminated the springs entirely, and replace with cut off pieces of a cymbal mute made from thick, soft but dense neoprene rubber (think wetsuit material) old school mousepad / keyboard heel rests are similar.
Actually, that's what is under many of the pickups in my basses upun replacement or disassembly.

Happy new bass guitar day. Picked up a used Tribute M2500 based on recommendations here. I’ve never owned a five string and so far really liking it.
It has the worst setup ever so off to get new strings and give this the setup it deserves.
Need some string recommendations. Tried a set of EXL170-5 and the E and B string seem pretty floppy to me. As a matter of fact the E sounds nothing like the E on any of my other G&Ls.
Strings are an individual taste, but I've settled on Ernie Ball Cobalt flats for my L-2500 and my Reverend Decision P. They are the only flatwounds that I have liked so far, and I like them better than roundwounds.
Does D’Addario offer a 5-string version of their XL165, or can you just order the 165 4-string set to go with your existing B? I liked it better for feel than the 170’s - just enough more “pushback” with the slightly heavier G thru E strings.
I love those flats...but I'm curious about the rounds. I'm thinking about putting those on my L2000 to bring out some more brightness
Hey guys - some G&L MFD question for y'all.
Firstly - who can compare the EMG GZR to the MFD P from an SB-2? I hear the SB-2 pickup getting compared to the Dimarzio Model P (DP122), with most saying it has a little more vintage warmth.
The reason I ask is twofold.....the reason I have a bass with an EMG GZR is I originally had a Model P in the bass but found it too harsh and lacking a little bottom end. The Geezer is definitively more vintage warm and a little smoother but the overall output is a little less. I'm thinking the MFD P may be what I'm after tonewise AND have the increased output so that when I cycle between it and my L2000 the output difference isn't so great?
Second question....I'm looking at grabbing a 5 string J bass with 18mm string spacing. What I want to do with it is bang an L2500 pickup right in the middle of the 2 J pickups - to kinda get the best of both worlds (a J bass AND L1005 bass). My only concern is the very slight difference in string spread due to the 18mm spacing on the J bass (as opposed to a true L2500). Surely the magnetic field of an L2500 pickup would cater for this mild difference - can anyone comment on that?

My Lakland P has a GZR pickup and it sounds more “open” and has more vintage character than an MFD from what I can remember from doing a demo of a tribute SB2. The MFD P has tons of output and fuller low mids
