Well, I sold my SB-2 shortly after buying my L2000 and still regret it nearly three years later, so I'd say keep it.

I couldn't imagine not having my SB-2. Nothing else I've played sounds like one. To me, it's one of Leo's best creations.

Nice! That's what fixed my noisy MJ-4 (yea, the one with dual coil pickups that's supposed to be noise free).

I think you'll love that Matador! I have an ash/maple Matador with the alnico LB-100 pickups and I love the tone.

There must quite a sound difference between the alnico pups and MFDs?

Yes - the alnicos sound smooth and vintage, and the MFDs are more full with higher output. The alnicos sound like a P with J growl, and the MFDs sound like a P with L2000 roar!

That's a great description of the MFD split pickup. We stuffed L2K roar into a split P. You've been warned.

It's definitely become my most favorite bass. So much thunder and growl

I picked up a used Tribute M2500 a couple weeks ago and after multiple sets of strings and much fiddling I just couldn't warm to it. Luckily GC will take it back.

No hate on the M2500. I guess I expected it to sound more like my L2K and it doesn't.

It's missing that MFD snarl I've come to love. Don't get me wrong. It's a good sounding bass. Just not for me.

Oh well, had to try one. Now if I can find a used L2500...

This explains why I've never bought an L-2000. I get plenty of passive MFD slam with my SB-2, and it sounds like a P-bass. Still wouldn't mind an L-2500 though.

I felt the same way about my M-2500 Trib. It was a nice bass, sounded good, played good, but just lacked a little something. It's a very nice bass if your expectations are set appropriately, but if you're expecting an L, it falls a little short.

They're from Japan but Mike from Quickguards can make pickguards for L2000s and L2500s.

Not too shabby tone-wise if I do say so myself. I made a few mistakes but hey, this was a one-take video. I've never played a bass that just thunders and growls like this.

Bass is set to about 60% Volume, 90% Treble, 50-60% Bass, Both Pickups, Parallel, with Active Treb Boost.

Effects Chain:
donner Noise Killer Noise Gate (my house's wiring sucks and it's super noisy)
Behringer CS400 Compressor/Sustainer w/Tone & Attack cranked a bit
Behringer BDI21 Sansamp Clone preamp
Behringer SF300 Super Fuzz
Sonicake Boom Ave (for Octaver)
Boss GT-1B w/"Tool Time" Custom patch -- High Band OD, EQ Filter with mids scooped a bit, and a GK Amp simulator

Sounds fantastic!! The L2000 is the best bass to nail that Wal tone without a doubt.
