I owned a Stingray and Sterling (USA) when I picked up my first L2K (USA) and sold them both (along with my Pedulla Rapture 5) after the L2K just flattened them all by tonal comparison. My Tribute L2K is every bit as good as my two USAs so I'd say go for it.
Here's some of my old G&L porno:
That's a gorgeous collection you have! .. So as it stands right now, I'm going to see it, and most likely take it off buddy's hands thursday morning. It's solid black with a maple neck. The picture he sent me is really small and I can't really see much, apparently it's all he had. Currently strung with nylon tapewounds and has a thumb rest installed, I'm assuming similar to your amber burst. Never used those before, and even until a few weeks ago, never used flats. He claims it's minty fresh, so I'm hoping all I'll have to do is change the strings and a minor setup. I figured any one who uses tapewounds, must have some kind of respect for their instrument seeing as how they're not your everyday "typical" strings.
Now, as far as G&L's site goes, solid colours are basswood bodies, which I'm fine with, and their spec sheet lists as 1 3/4" nut. Is this accurate? Also, I cannot find much info on black/maple'd L2000 Tributes in terms of actual specs. They mostly appear to have rosewood boards.
I'm not one of those people who think because an instrument is made in XXX-offshore country, that it means it's garbage. I play a Korean Dano reissue as my main bass, so that should say a lot about me. I'm really looking forward to this bass, but I just am reluctant to be let down by another half-ass kept instrument, and waste an hour + drive each way only to find out the deal is a no-go. I'm really sick of "trying" basses and am looking for a keeper. I had intentions of selling the SUB to fund a higher end Precision, but then this guy contact me on Kijiji and it sparked my interest because I've always wanted a G&L.
I just want a bass I can
really be happy with and enjoy. Not that I dislike or am unhappy with any of my other basses, they just provide single sonic qualities that I like for certain things I play, but not others. I guess I'm looking for versatility, and everything I've heard/seen about the L2000 nails it for me.
Maybe I'm over-thinking this.. Who knows. I just want something "nice."
