All I know is that my 2012 L2500 has the bone nut and my old 2002 one didn't. So sometime in that 10 year period.

New bass day! Got a great deal on this off craigslist. Up for sale is my Godin Freeway 5.

The bridge looks to be held down with only 2 screws and can have a tendency to lift if not strung though the body.
You can of course do the L2500 bridge mod, completely reversible if you ever wanted to.
This is my first G&L 5ver, but I've never heard of that issue before. Thanks for the link; I'll look into it. This one seems fine but I'll definitely string it through the body when I get a set of slinky coateds.
That's gorgeous BadJazz.. I'm driving an hour, a complete gamble to check out a black/maple L2000 Tribute to trade my SUB for straight up. After creeping the guy's facebook page, I seen he was a younger, gigging musician, so I have a good feeling about it.. Can't wait to play that 1.75" nut. I also heard that G&L's preamp and MFD pickups play well with Eden amps, which is fortunate for me since I just bought one a few months ago.
Side question, are all Tributes string-through-body, or just certain runs? I prefer STB myself, but it's not a deal breaker.

Only the five strings, from my experience. My 2 USA L2K's (both 93s) are bridge only.
String through body is only on L series 5 strings, both USA and Tributes. M series 5 strings are string through bridge, as are all 4 strings.
Ahh okay.. That's a shame.. Ah well, like I said, not a deal breaker, just preference.

Oh, and I guess you can consider me a member. Picked up that L2K Tribute I was going on about yesterday. What an outstanding bass, I can't even begin to describe it! This 1.75" nut is just what my hand wanted!
Just gotta set it up to my liking and most likely change the strings. He has D'Addario Nylon Tapes on it, and while they feel good on the fingers, I'm not sure how I feel about their tone. Probably going to gut it to see what's under the hood and get to know it a little better. I also didn't notice till I was inspecting it further when I got home, but the fretboard appears to have a slight birdseye pattern to it. Those aren't chips/dents, it legitimately looks like birdseye maple. It's only on the fretboard though.

Really? Is it just an aesthetic reason, or?
I've never had a bass with one installed, so maybe that's why I like it? Who knows. Beats having two holes showing without a purpose imo.
I just find thumb rests to be useless, although your's actually looks pretty cool in the metal. I wouldn't put one on my black L2K fretless though.

I'd bet it sounds awesome.
If you don't find you like the thumb rest after a while and don't want the empty holes, you could get one that is less tall and more rounded for a softer profile.
Other than that, just play it hard and often and you'll be happy.

Something to consider for sure. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to keep it as-is, still not sure about the tapes though.. I need to drop the action a bit and raise the pickups slightly to get it where I want it.
Now that I have the weekend off, I can really get to know it better. This thing is a tone monster so far and I'm loving it. So much so, I'm over getting a higher end Precision. Apart from (even a cheap-ish) 5-string, I don't have even the slightest desire for any other bass.
