I think that's the same neck as the early L1 & 2000's.

It should be. Brochures/catalogs show same specs where they have specs across the line in the earlier G&L years (noting that the earliest catalogs lack full specs). The first catalogs that I have with nut width no longer have El Toros, but show all G&L basses except the ASAT Bass at 1-3/4" width (even on the L5000) instead of the 1-11/16" quoted above. ASAT is shown as 1-1/2" width. That said, I imagine GGJaguar page shows measured dimensions which likely vary a little from spec given the hand made nature of the product.

Prior to checking the catalogs this morning, I did not realize the ASAT bass had a thinner neck than the rest of the line when it was introduced.

In case anybody was wondering about the most appropriate watch for a G&L enthusiast, it just might be LA-based microbrand Nodus. I was on their site yesterday, and one of their photos features the headstock of an S-500 guitar. Not a bass, but it does have MFDs!

I'm looking at an L2500 Tribute, I think a few years old, Sunburst with matching headstock for sale locally. He says it is in excellent condition and wants $450. This seems like a fairly low price. Is this a "jump on it right now" price or is it something that comes around frequently? It would be my first 5 string and first G&L if I go for it. I don't really have the money for it exactly but could probably make it happen by unloading a couple of things. Not too excited about 10+ pound weight but I pretty much play sitting in my music room anyway so probably won't make much difference.

I had thought that for my use (rock band) having two identical, or one detuned, or one flat etc., would be useful. Turns out, not so much. I love them both and would have a hard time parting with one but I'm thinking I would trade one for an SB-2 which I've been eyeing for some time. Same neck, same body..just very different tones.

Anyway, are the classifieds here the best place to look for that? I don't see a "Wanted To Trade (WTT)" category, just "Wanted." Thoughts?

Interesting. The patent describes wanting to improve the pickups ability to pick up harmonics better a few times. Was that the primary aim of the MFD design?

I've had great luck with trades on TB the last few years, so hopefully someone may have what you're looking for.
I have a very unique L1k I might be interested in trading for a kiloton if that's of interest to you.

I have a SB2 T but to trade it , your Kilo would have to check all my boxes:
Alder
Quarter sawn
Stainless frets
Blocks and Binding.
Painted head is icing on the cake.

I think that's a pretty fair price for a used L2500 Tribute from what I've seen.

You can check GuitarCenter.com or Reverb.com to see what they go for. I do this daily as I'm (for some reason) always looking for some new or exciting G&L.

Local is nice because you can go look at it, play it and check it out before buying it.

Scrolling through the photos on G&L's facebook page, I somehow found myself looking at this from four years ago

I don't recall seeing a 3+2 G&L headstock before. Have I just been unobservant?

And if a 3+2 can exist, does that mean a 3+1 can, too?

They started out with 4+1 then switched to 3+2 but as far as I know 3+1 has never been available.

Ah, here's the answer to why I had not noticed the 3+2 before: I had only been looking at Kiloton 5s and JB-5s (which are still 4+1) and not the L/M-2500s (which are 3+2)
