I am probably putting more than you care to know here, but in case anyone later finds this and is hoping to reference it...

L2500 is currently 3+2 and has been for a long time. Early L2500s and the L5500 were 4+1 (a bulkier version of 4+1 that does not look like the current 4+1). The non-sickle headstock L5000 was a 4+1 that looks closer to the current 4+1. Sickle stock L5000 was also 4+1, but had its own non-G&L looking shape going on.

That sounds like a great price to me!
I bought one similar to that description new about one year ago and couldn't be happier with it.

Thanks. Yours looks just like the one for sale. My main hang-ups are 1) my only other electric bass is a sunburst finish (Yamaha BB434) and 2) I'm more inclined to go with a 4 string. On the other hand, I've only been playing a little while and now might be the time to see if a 5 will work for me or not.
Before I can move on it I need to sell at least one piece of gear I have on hand locally and I just put it up for sale on CL. Pretty good chance the bass will be gone by the time that happens. We'll see how it goes.

Agreed. There were definitely some inconsistencies in neck profiles in the early years, I've experienced that first hand. My '83 L1K feels extra full in hand, despite its identical nut width and radius as others of the same era (and earlier). Some would say it feels "chunky", and so would I.

Fast-forward a few years to the mid-late 80's, it seems G&L had perfected their bass neck profile. For my money these were G&L's best-ever neck profiles.

IME, nut width and radius specs don't tell the whole story of how a neck feels in the hand. The secret sauce is in the shaping of the back of the neck.

I've had the Jb2 for about 2 years,and it's one of my favorites to play that I've ever owned.
I bought it used online from GC,and put a set of Labella Low tension flexible flatwounds on it.
It practically plays itself. I've been schlepping it around in a gig bag and wanting to find something it wouldn't roll around in. This Nash case is specifically made for their pbass,so it's a nice fit.

JB2s FTW. My pair of workhorses are largely retired out to pasture, but I'm finally ready to throw myself into a new project, after a few years of doing occasional hired gun work, so they might see some action, down the line. The JB2/MJ family have always seemed to be the red-headed step-children of G&L. I'm OK with that, since being an ardent advocate and player has helped me stand out from the herd. Of course, my designated beater is a MIM Fender Jazz, these days.
