Unfortunately, G&L won't sell you an individual bass neck, so you would have to send in your whole bass. And they keep your current neck.

It sucks, I know.

There are other companies that can sell you a neck to mate with your G&L body. Others will know more about this than me.

I figured a new neck was cost prohibitive, so was thinking more about replacing my current SB-1 with one that has a more jazz sized neck, if they exist.

Is a 1.5" nut SB-1 a unicorn?

I’m sure they’re out there, but that would have been a non-standard option order, so there’s probably not a ton out there. And I’d really doubt you’ll find many from the 3-bolt era. Probably more recent.

I'm not sure how common they are, but here's one: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Also, FWIW, the SB-2 has had a standard 1.5" nut width for a long time. I completely understand wanting the simplicity of the SB-1, which I'd probably prefer, but my SB-2 has been fantastic.

Thanks for the input and suggestions guys. I'm really looking for a cost effective way to get into a thinner neck, so buying new isn't in the cards.

I think replacing the current SB-1 with an SB-1, SB-2 or LB-100 with the right neck is the answer. I've seen 1 5/8" ones for sale, just wondering if holding out for 1.5" was reasonable or dumb. If the 1.5" ones only come by once a decade, then I guess I'm SOL.

Sounds like an SB-2 might be the answer. Not the pickups I'd want, but easy to change that.

Like a lot of things in life, it really is just a question of how much time you have. And how much of it you want to spend on this quest.

Pretty sure my 3-bolt SB1 is 1.5"

A quick search thru the TB classified ads showed 2 LB-100's with 1.5" necks sold last summer, and 2 more the summer of 2019. (Didn't look for SB-1's 'cause I'm gonna go for the LB tone when the time comes.)
