I'm a big fan of burst with tort. I once had an SB2 like the LB100 except maple fretboard. The burst wasn't as subtle as the photo you posted. That LB100 in the photo is one of the prettiest bursts I've seen. It almost doesn't look like a burst.

Yes, the Hugger came with a black guard. I got the tort from G&L, but there are other aftermarket sources as well.

Now that I'm thinking about I really have a thing for that grey Graphite Metallic, but no pickguard -- which is apparently not an option in the bass builder
I think graphite metallic could be a BA bass, but I don't think I've seen one.

This is another reason I buy used -- avoid these kind of open ended decisions you have to live with long term at full price.

Hey that Ruby Red Sb2 is my old bass. I currently have a LB100 with maple neck and mint guard. I may have to sell her. Stay tuned.

So here is the problem. There is such variability in the photos and the way they are rendered on the screen that you can easily be thrown off (e.g. The recent blue dress). Most folks have no clue how to properly set the white balance in their pics so you end up with off-color photos. Even if the photo is spot on your monitor is probably not color balanced so, once again, you can end up with a color cast.

For strong colors it isn't an issue but for subtle things line the variations in shading in a sunburst, details in a tort guard or even the overall brightness of a dark or light bass it can be problematic.

The bottom line - do NOT trust just one photo. Search for many. Average them together in your head. Give more weight to the pro images from G&L or good vendors and then hope for the best.

I love the tobacco burst. I wish I had gotten that when I order from Rocket a few years back, but I'm not complaining with my 3TSB...

if i was to say old school g&l, i'd have to say that transparent blood red they used on the early L series basses
