I'm personally much more concerned about the Stingray than this "Kiloton". I petition Musicman to rename their flagship bass to the much more peaceful "Manta" Ray.

G&L Kiloton

I don't know, in my headphones, the demo sounds, to me, not so much like Stingray at all. Well, the parallel variant does. The Singlecoil and Series variants are, to me, fatter and less sizzly than the Stingray sounds I remember. I imagine it would be great with flats on it.

In all honesty I think the Kiloton sounds more like a punchier, muscular sounding jazz bass, Now if they happened to do a 5 string and what about a fretless demo!!!!
How would one go about ordering any custom options through Thomann- is this possible at all? Not that I have the cash to burn, but once I have, this might be interesting.

Not enough details on their Kiloton page, neither body nor pickguard colors are mentioned. They say it's available in 2-5 days. I believe the stock is from a country/regional importer/distributor. One cannot avoid to call and ask for more details, and if they make custom options.

There are official G&L distributors and shops all around Europe. I know one shop (Michenaud) that is a 45 minute drive from my place. They have a limited G&L stock both on-line and at the shop, but they do take custom orders. The country distributor is in the same city and shows 5 different models/colors of Tribute basses (L-2x00) and 8 models/colors of MIA G&L basses (L-2x00 and JB) on their website. No Kiloton yet with them.

News flash; An L-2500 is not the be-all/end-all bass that some seem to think it is.

Saw this on G&L's Facebook page earlier, I can't wait to see more of these!
Tort looks much better than the white pearl in the promo pics.
Straight forward controls and able to cop some nice tones.
The L series are my favorite from G&L. The SB1 another so I like the mix of the two series.

It's not a complete game changer by any means, but it looks cool to me. Comfy, downsized body. Versatile, single pickup. Simplicity is good. Probably pretty light. I wonder if it's avaiable in Empress wood. Did I hear "available in any finish?"
I'm not sure if passive adds an anything to the equation, but the clips sound great.

The "name is violent" guys make me laugh. Come on. Is "punchy" tone too violent too?
So Greg at Rocket was kind enough to let me play around with one of these for a bit. I've learned over the years that I am a passive bass guy and that I love the #8 G&L neck. This fits the bill on both accounts so I thought it was worth checking out. I didn't spend a whole lot of time on it but here are my initial impressions:
It's really fun to play. It has a great E string and great tone up and down the neck. It's punchy and a bit barky, but not in a bad way. It's a little hard to tame it. I ended up just cutting the volume about 20% and that helped, but it's not a "mellow" bass (especially with new strings). If I were in a band with a harder edge to it, I think this would be the way to go. It's hard to compare to a stingray since I've never played a passive stingray.
Overall it would be a really fun bass to have. Especially if you are like me and like the MFDs but don't actually dig having the 5,000 tonal choices that come with an L-2000.
Sorry my analysis is not more detailed. Maybe I'll have to buy one and do a better review!

I never thought any G&L would rival my LB-100 love, but this is doing it. Especially in those colors^.
Kiloton is a passive bass with a tone control, L1500 is active with the passive switching option and the famous treble and bass cut knobs.
