G&L L-1000 decisions, decisions

Those early 1Ks are one piece necks with skunk stripes. The originals all had chrome hardware and the black hardware came in starting in 81 or 82. I like the ebony board with chrome because it is cool but the maple necks are great on these too. I would keep them both because I have two that look just like them.

Keep the one of the left. I personally like the ebony fingerboards better. Plus, it's an 81 and original. Both are very nice!

Right all the way, that fretboard is super pretty and I always saw the black hardware as a G&L signature characteristic. I also prefer a bass that's been played over a show beauty.

Hi Luke. I'm working on that. Probably base that off of recent sold listings minus fees plus shipping.

I'd take the necks off, weigh the bodies, put the rosewood neck on the lighter body, and keep that.

That's a good question, only a close-up pic will tell. If it's late '81 in might actually be rosewood. Otherwise, best guess is ebony, as that was the G&L default "dark wood" from the beginning until '82. Add to that, early G&L ebony boards were often mistaken for rosewood because G&L didn't stain their ebony.

That said, there are always outliers. And as per usual..."never say never" where Leo was involved. Maybe the OP will post more pics of the board. Curious minds 'n all...

One thing for sure, that's not "crinkle" black hardware on the '82.

I'm a maple fretboard guy, but I voted for the rosewood due the fact that it is in better condition due to being NOS.

Now the B00 serial number thing has me wondering what the lowest number B00 anyone has seen? I know the first was B000500, curious if anyone on here has seen a 500-599 range number?

And 22 is my Sober Birthday (8/22/90 a day at a time)

Anybody have one low low??
