I bought these two beauties within a month of each other. On the right is an 81 body and an 82 neck. (Garret, if you're on here I bought the second one after our last text message. Couldn't pass it up). Obviously maple. On the left is all 81 and basically new-old stock. The body on the left has light hairline finish cracks here and there from existing for 40 years in low humidity. Otherwise it's like new. The body on the right has some honest play wear that doesn't bother me. Also there's the difference in hardware (Control plate and bridge). They both play and sound great. The one with the maple neck is a pound heavier if that's something to consider. I have an idea of which I prefer visually but I'd like your opinions. I know that the preference between maple and rosewood will likely be split down the middle but there are other factors.

Thanks Hank. Any preference or comment regarding the hardware options? I think the reissue CLF research that came out last year are chrome for some reason.

I’d keep the rosewood one, personally. Not only because I like rosewood (I like maple, too, but I like rosewood more) but also because it’s all original and it’s lighter.

Both nice! I had one exactly like the one on the right. I have a kinky fetish for the crinkle coat finish on the hardware so that's my choice.
