G&L: L1000 VS L2000

I believe so based on what I've seen others do. I've never modified the electronics on an L2K and haven't searched for the circuit diagrams so it's all hearsay on my part.

I'll have to get Ken in on this when I receive it. I know that the pickups have an extra wire on them when its wired with the 'K' switch.

i also love my pbass, but imo, my wunkay goes so beyond what the pbass can do tonally, i mean that it's got some serious ballz down in the lower end, ( if it's dialed up for ballziness ) or it can be dialed back for some nice creamy goodness, & yet the clarity of the mids & upper register & strings just pop,,, all sparkly

it's not all about the thud, or the thump as with a pbass with flats. i'm running mine with a cheap set of SS light flats from webstrings ( <<< absolutely love 'em ) so i can dial in all the thump i need, yet i have a nice shimmery top that i adore

i've always loved the simplicity of single pickup basses & i believe that Leo's third creation was his best single pickup / passive system that has been produced, imo

Lastly, you're right to be concerned about buying one without playing it first. I've had 15 or so L1000's, and the two I have were the best of the lot. Some of the others were "nice but not for me," and several were just dogs. So, try to buy with a return period, if you can.

That seems pretty unlikely. I have never seen one for sale locally unless you want to sell me one of yours.

There are plenty of guitar shops that offer a trial period.
Some sellers on ebay even do.

To me the L1000 and L2000 are somewhat different beasts. Having had a few of both over the years I find I greatly prefer the L1000. However, buying blind is still a bit of a gamble since all instruments sound different.

That being said, IMO, comparing the P and L1000 is an apples to space shuttle comparison.

ski jump...yeah...

The older G&L's (and some Fender and MusicMan) have three bolt neck attachment, with a microtilt adjuster there th level the neck to the body.
If this is raised up alot, and then the attachment bolts torqued too tight, it can warp the end of the neck upwards.
This can be minimal, or tragic.
Sometimes a fret dress will fix it, sometimes you have to remove frets from like 14 on up, replane the neck and refret. Bummer.

Completely preventable if you know proper setup procedure for these.

OK new question how does an L1000 compare to L1500?

Major differences I can think of are:
L1000 Passive Only - L1500 /Passive Active
L1000 Pickup Config Parallel/Single Coil/OMG - L1500 Pickup Config Parallel/Series

How do they stack up tone wise?

1500 leans more towards MM tone. Sorta.
