G&L Latest Arrivals

Here's a 2019 G&L SB-1 that was a special order that went awry. It was supposed to have an Empress body, but it showed up with an Alder body. Oh, well, still a cool bass! Just not what my customer wanted. :( This one has been here sitting in the box for months, and I finally got around to posting it today!

This one has a few upgrades: 1 3/4" nut width, quartersawn neck, graphite nut and 3-ply black pickguard. Between all that and the fact that it should've been sold as soon as it arrived (if G&L had built it right, dagnabbit), I'm motivated to discount this one a little deeper than usual just to help find it a home quickly. PM me if you'd like a quote on this one!

Here's another special order gone awry. This one was supposed to have a quartersawn neck, but it got built with the regular flatsawn maple neck by mistake. And then my customer's income took a dive, so he had to cancel the order as we waited for a new neck to be built. Sigh. I've since cancelled the QS neck being built just to keep the price down, so this bass will sell with the flatsawn neck.

Loaded up with other options, though, this one is still the most expensive G&L in my inventory. Is that just GREAT?!?! LOL Fortunately, it's also the lightest G&L I've ever seen, and that's saying something. With it's Empress body, this one weighs just 6.7 lbs!

Needless to say, I am highly motivated to discount this one more heavily than usual to help find it a good home quickly! PM me if you'd like a quote. I figure this one will move pretty quickly given the weight and the overall gorgeous look, so don't sleep on it!

OK, I swear this will be my last sob story of the week! The three most recent posts (including this one) have all been screwups that left me stocking a bass I wasn't planning to stock. What should have been 3 easy/guaranteed sales turned into 3 steps backward for my cash flow. Wah. The previous two were special order builds that weren't built exactly to the specs of the orders, and this one was a sale off the "available" list and the guy didn't like the little bit of figure in the wood of the headstock. I get bummed out when I have a run of bad luck like this, so these basses have just been sitting here in the box, some for months. I couldn't even bring myself to open the boxes. LOL Well, that's just making the problem worse, nobody will ever buy them if they don't know they exist. So now the world knows about them, and I can hopefully get back to having better luck for the rest of this year!

And just to be absolutely clear so somebody doesn't buy this one and then hate the figure in the headstock: you can see it in the first photo, there's like a vertical line of grain between the nut and the string tree. Some folks will think it's beautiful, some will thinks it's a defect. I don't want to sell this one again to anyone in the defect camp. :)

This past week has been pretty heavy with "Custom Shop" activity. Last week I had a Matador drop shipped to a customer off of the available list, and then this special order Custom Shop JB just arrived today. It should be headed out of here shortly if all goes according to plan. And then I expect to receive another Matador (also a special order) in a day or two. Woot!

That 3A Flame Roasted Maple neck is pretty darn swanky!

I didn't order the quartersawn option with this bass, but it arrived quartersawn... I wonder if that is just baked into the Flame Roasted Maple option, or was that a happy accident? I'll keep my eyes on that as more Roasted Maple necks arrive.

Howdy? My name is Nick.
I have heard nothing but good about you Greg, and Rocket Music...cheers to that!
That bass is absolutely over the top beautiful! I'm not usually a big tiger/quilted maple guy but DANG! The neck on that thing! Its incredible! If you don't mind my asking, how much money does an instrument like that cost?
Cheers!

Howdy!

All the pricing details are there on my site if you follow the link, but the short answer is that MSRP is $4579 and the minimum I'm allowed to advertise is 70% of that = $3199.99. In reality, I discount G&L stuff a bit, though I can only disclose those details in private conversations. So it's something less than $3199.99 (but not dramatically less).

This one is pretty tricked out. The flame maple top adds top a bunch, the blocks add a bunch, the neck adds a bunch, and the premier finish & ash body add a bunch. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing a neck like that against a solid colored body so the neck could really be the star of the show. In a case like that, the price could easily be quite a bit less (like $500-600 less?). Though there's no denying, this is a jaw dropingly gorgeous bass as spec'd! Yowsa!!

Here's the Custom Shop Matador I mentioned a few posts back. This one was a special order for @bdgotoh, and it turned out fabulously well! Thanks, Brad!

The green Matador arrived Friday, thanks Greg!
I've played this for two days now, and compared it to the blue Matador I already have with LB-100 alnico pickups. They both sound terrific but they're distinctly different. The blue alnico gets a wonderful vintage vibe that's a cross between a P and a J with both pickups up full - P thickness with J growl. I love the tone and the whole bass is adjusted perfectly for balance, tone, and feel.

The green Matador has all the output and great tone the MFDs provide, it's a little more like an L-2000 crossed with a P than a vintage P or J. I haven't gotten it all adjusted yet, so I'm expecting I'll love it even more as I get everything set for me, but so far I'm really happy with the tone and feel.

G&L is still making really great basses!
