G&L/Music Man

I was assuming that was who you meant, Jack. I was trying to say that you might be surprised if you tried the G&Ls Chuck currently has.

I've had two HH4 Bongos and knowing Craig like I do, there's no way he'd be happy with that neck. Plenty comfy but a full 1-5/8" wide on both of mine.

Did you have a Sterling once upon a time Craig? I sorta recall that you did...

I think once the dual pickup basses are actually in full swing, I just might have to get myself another Sterling.

Or....long term, a Sterling 5. Might be a long wait on those, but I hope to still be around, heh.

And I just got a "new" Stingray 4. I've missed having one of those around.

Brad, I wish I were still close enough to Chuck to drive over and try those G&Ls. I miss that guy.

That one.

Ya, that's the #7 neck....bears a resemblance to the old P bass "pancake" necks of yore. They're not for everyone, but I like 'em.

And you're right, that neck has been the standard L2K neck for a long time. That may change. I've noticed a lot more L2K's with the #8 jazz neck lately. They used to be sorta rare.

I'll chime in here....

Music Man basses have been around longer. More famous bassists use them, and when I first started playing, I liked basses my favorite players used. They are easier to recognize to "Joe Public" and beginner players. Plus Joe Nerve plays one. G&L can't claim that.

I prefer G&L, but love Music Man basses. They just have their own unique sound. G&L also has it's own sound, and that should not be forgotten.

G&L has choices on neck sizes, and they don't discontinue all of their cool finishes like sparkle black. Also, I like the bongo's looks and really want to play one, but it is the SR5 pickguard that I find most offensive.

So, Music Man costs more because.........drumroll..........they are more popular.

You do realize that the Bongo neck, while not as slim as the Sterling, is less hefty than the Stingray?

I did not know that. I saw it speced at 1-5/8" at the nut and I know I haven't found any basses with that nut width that work for me any more. But I'll have to try one out next time I get the chance. I think I'm scheduled for a GC visit sometime in 06 or 07 . . . (I almost never visit music stores)
