Are you sure it wasn't 83? I have the G&L Leo's Legacy book that says the crinkle came out then.

These text books are sometimes inaccurate.

The headstock is clearly visible in the OP's picture.

I'm having a hard time reading the text other than serial numbers but I believe you.
Still, there's no better evidence than the bass. Mine was an '82. Perhaps a late '82 but I remember checking the serial number.

Yeah man I have a catalog from 1980 and G&L: Leo's Legacy by Paul Bechtold which seems thoroughly researched and a good account of the early days. That's all I have to base my knowledge from. I know there are those here with more than me. This is all making me kinda wish I didn't sell my El Toro this month.

Nice! I have an 83' with the same headstock, 3 bolt neck, and crinkle black hardware. A tank in all the right sense of the word, it will never let you down. I havent touched the neck tilt in all these years, never needed to. That one looks almost pristine, mines gotten a little "road worn", thinking about refinning it.
