G&L Pricing

Man, that Fallout Bass body is pretty small relative to the "normal" bodies. And even at that, the bridge on the Fallout Bass is placed way more toward the neck than the bridge is on the normal bodies. On an L2K body, I bet they'd have to put the bridge almost where the bridge pickup normally goes?

I suspect that might end up look looking rather strange?

i don't think so. look where a telecaster guitar's bridge is.

here's a quick mockup that i did of a short scale ASAT. (i'd like even more if it was a semi-hollow)

G&L just announced a price drop for their Build To Order Line. This knocks $350-$400 off per model relative to the March 2023 price list.

The only other significant change I see if that their gig bag idea seems to have died on the vine. It's no longer an option, while in March 2023 it was supposed to be the new default case for orders.

If you've done a special order with me that was priced at the higher March prices, I will be able to adjust your price to the new prices. I'll be digging through my orders to find everyone affected, but feel free to drop me a PM if you know you are in that group.

Cheers,
Greg

In a world where everything goes up, a price decrease is a sign that sales aren’t great. They probably realised their new prices were ridiculous. At some point, increasing prices year after year isn’t sustainable for customers.

With all due respect to G&L, the number of options now available on a Build To Order make it less appealing to me (I have to go custom shop for the options I want).

I had a theory (unprovable, and fairly cynical) that the particularly large price hike for BTO was intended as a disincentive, that their BTO order book be reduced to a manageable size.

Whether deliberate or not, it has clearly worked — they wouldn't be doing this if they still had more than enough orders coming into the BTO dept.

And the fact that they feel able to reduce most the models by $351 shows that at least some of the BTO price hike was a strategic choice, not an unavoidable necessity.

Anyway. I just totted up the options for my January 2023 LB-100 at these latest prices: $2099 basic plus $100 each for Empress, Quartersawn and Gloss Tint. And then with that $2399 in mind, I went and cast as cold an eye as I could over the bass.

Yes, that price for that bass would make sense to me, just about. At $350 more, it felt like a line had been crossed, and that G&L had moved on up from people like me.

I just brought [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] up to date with the latest 2023 pricing and options. Sorry, I should have done that a long, long time ago!

While I was in the nitty gritty of doing that, I also added [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] and a form for [Invalid or Expired Link Removed].

These forms show you the current street prices of all the options and the total street price (how much you'd see it advertised online). When you click the "Submit For Quote" button, I'll get an email with the details and I will respond with our discounted price. Plus any advice you might want, and I'll raise any spec conflicts, etc.

Is Margarita Metallic gone?

Just asking as an idle browser (not intending to order anytime soon), I don’t see whiskey on the list of finishes, and is empress wood no longer an option?

Empress is still an option. Whiskey is not in a technical sense, but I’ve ordered and received a whiskey lb-100 this year. So I can still get both.

Just saw 4 of your G&L basses on Facebook, Greg! Interesting changes in recent weeks, they seem to be building instruments in batches by the dealer who ordered them, instead of the old way of lumping colors together or whatever they did. Seems like a good idea, did they tell you this was happening?
