I know it's a lot to ask, but it sure would be nice if G&L offered a medium-scale option for CS/BTO.

Can we get MFD Jazz Bass pickups in the Custom Shop ?
Can we get MFD Jazz Bass pickups in the Custom Shop ?
I just heard from my G&L guy that the MFD J pickups are not an official product, but they will accept orders for them on a Custom Shop JB.
My recollection was that the pickups were too tall to fit in most J pickup routes, so this jibes with that. I assume they would route the CS JB pickup routes deeper than usual to accommodate the taller pickups.
Apropos of this, Dimarzios have required a deeper route forever …or at least since the ‘80’s. It’s not an extraordinary mod.FYI - that assumption was just confirmed. The MFD J pickups are too tall to fit in a Fender or even in a G&L JB. They have to cut deeper pickup routes, and that's where the Custom Shop gets involved.
@chuck65...check this out for more info.

I am curious: would the custom shop do one MFD J and one alnico JB pickup?
Hmmm.
Imagine a Kiloton, with an MFD J in front of it.
Maybe? I think the MFD's are humcancelling, and the alnico JB is not. They're also probably pretty different from an output point of view, so they might not match very well.
Especially with the single coil option MFD humbucker. Then you could have a jazz bass option!Hmmm.
