G&L Pricing

BTW - I was guessing previously on the new 2022 price of Empress. I initially showed $230 (same as Swamp Ash), but a while back I received word from G&L that it's actually $100.

I don't think I've quoted anybody incorrectly, but let me know if I have! I'm happy to adjust any prices I got wrong.

Does G&L offer pickup color options? I seen some of their guitars have white/cream pickup housings. I’m curious if the basses can.

On their price list, they call out various PUP cover colors that vary by model. A Legacy can get black, mint or parchment covers, an S-500 only has black and white available, etc. It's all guitars, but I'm pretty sure I've ordered white and cream covers on basses in the past. They often have bass pickups with those covers for sale in their online store.

I've only ever seen white covers for the 4 string L2000 and M2000 pickups, nothing else for color or bass model. Doesn't mean they can't, though.

I replaced the pickups on my LB-100 with Lindy Fralins, as much because I wanted white pickup covers as because I'm addicted to Lindy's pickups. In this case I was surprised that I really didn't hear a big difference from the G&L stock pickups—and I guess that makes them a bargain (although a bargain without white covers).

For years, I played a 2004 MIA Fender P with a Fralin, and it's my favorite traditional (i.e., non-MFD) P-bass pickup. When I tested a USA LB-100, I thought it sounded very close to the Fralin, as did the then-new Fender American Pro. I wonder if the instrument companies have been influenced by the good aftermarket pickup manufacturers, like Fralin and Nordstrand, and have given their pickups similar tone. (That would make sense to ward off competition from the Lakland Skylines, for example, which used Fralins for awhile.) My 2004 Fender's stock pickup had weak output and muddy lows and was nothing like Fralins or the current crop of G&L and MIA Fender pickups, so Fender, at least, has come a long way.

More importantly, those white covers look great on that LB-100!

@RocketMusic Is the frost/satin finishing a custom shop option only?

Ric got ya covered (thanks, Ric!), but yeah - it's $0 to add the frost option to any type of finish on a Build To Order instrument. Let me know if you have some specs in mind, and I can provide a quote!

"Below you will find the Prices for every bass model and option included in their “Build To Order” product line.

Thank you team!

My lack of literacy and atention to basics stikes again!

Keep up the great work Greg!

Is the fallout a bass that can be built to order?

Sort of. That's one of the CLF Research models, so it generally only comes in the 3 or 4 color and wood combinations that G&L offers for that model or the deluxe model. You could order one with your preferred specs through the Custom Shop, though that would add something like $800-1000 to the price and a 12+ month build time.
