G&L Pricing

Is 4+1 headstock now a thing for L series basses? What's the price?

That's not an option as far as I know. Have you seen something that might indicate otherwise?

** EDIT - I just saw the photo you posted in the G&L Club thread. I'll inquire with G&L to see if that is something that is going to be made generally available. **

Looks like that fretless blueburst L-2500 was a Custom Shop build for a G&L artist overseas. It sounds like the 4+1 is an option for the Custom Shop, but not for the Option Order USA instruments. I'm checking on price for the Custom Shop option.

There is also some other news from G&L regarding the 4+1 headstock, but I'm not sure I'm allowed to share that yet. It's new product development, and G&L usually likes to make the announcement themselves about this sort of stuff. I'll share the info once they say I can.

It would be really nice ( and probably profitable) if G&L had some kind of online “ build a Bass “ program.
The one where you can actually see what you are making as you add options, change finishes and colors..ect.
Drooling over a dream G&L while you imagine all the options is one thing , but if it could actually be seen while you drool , might push a lot of us over the cliff !!! Lol!!

This has not been updated in some time but works reasonably well. Of course Greg is still my go-to for all brands that he carries.

Thanks for posting that! I can never find it when I need it. :)

Yeah, it's fairly out of date (and has been for years), but it still covers a lot of the current G&L options. Better than nothing!

Any news on the custom shop pricing regarding that particular 4+1 headstock?

I know that the new CLF Research L2500 has the 4+1 option with the CLF headstock, but I particularly like this shape better (JB5/Kiloton5).
The gears are turning in my head, and I would love an L2500 exactly like this one (same blue burst, matching headstock, 4+1, natural body binding).
It would be the “fraternal twin” to my ‘96 L2500

I don't see a 4+1 option in the Custom Shop pricelist, so I'll have to inquire. Just curious - you mention the JB5/Kiloton5 as well as the L2500... those models come with different necks, so which one is it that you actually want with the 4+1 configuration? G&L's answer may differ depending on the answer.

Cheers,
Greg

Greg ,
Does G&L have a catalogue? Anything that would have a color pallet and maybe pick guards ? Neck tints ect...
Thanks !!

You can find some of that stuff on their website.

Here's their color chart: Made in Fullerton Finishes
And here's a list of most of the other options (neck profiles, pickguard, tints, etc.): USA Bass Options

No pictures on the second link, sorry!!

The pickguards are probably self explanatory, unless you're really picky about pickguards. :)

Their default/free neck tint is no tint, and that results in the bright white maple look on the back of the neck.

The next step up is Light Tint (available with a Satin or Gloss finish). This is the one I like the most, it just subtly warms up the Maple a little bit. Takes it in an amber/yellow direction, but still looks very natural. This is also a consistent look, not a lot of variation from one instrument to the next with this option.

The next step up is what they call Vintage Tint, and it can get pretty darn yellow. Like over the top yellow, not always so natural looking. That said, I see a lot of variation with Vintage Tint. Some of them look fine, and some look kinda crazy yellow. On a special order, you unfortunately don't know what you'll get. You kind of have to trust G&L to do it to a level that works with the body color. Personally, I would only order this if I would be OK with a really yellow looking neck.

The Light Tint and Vintage tint options are $143 MSRP ($100 on the street) for a satin finish and $215 ($150 on the street) for a gloss finish.

I called your shop on Friday asking about ordering a loose G&L neck. The person I spoke to told me to contact G&L directly which is kind of contradictory to what G&L asks you to do on the website (contact a dealer).

I left them a phone message but I'm sure I won't hear back. I've never heard back from them when I contact them directly.

I'm kind of going around in circles. I want to see about ordering some parts to fix up an '81 L2K. I think I may have found a neck but I really need a control plate (lefty), battery cover and possibly a neck plate.

I'm wondering if you could find out if ordering these parts is possible?

From my experience non-dealers do not have very much luck with these types, or any types, of inquiries when contacting G&L directly.

Thanks

Well, it looks like (at least through the Custom Shop), you can put a Kiloton 5 neck on an L-2500 to get the 4+1 headstock with the pointy tip.

I'm pretty sure they won't do that outside of the Custom Shop, but never say never with G&L. :)
I read in another post that there was the CS option of Classic or Modern 4+1. If it is a matter of just installing a Kiloton neck on the L2500, that would be even better for me as I prefer the 1-7/8” nut width of the kiloton over the 1-3/4” of the standard L2500.
My ‘96 has a 1-15/16” nut.

Hi there, Mr. Rocket,
Will those 2017 prices back in post #1 get updated any time soon?

The biggest reason I ask is because e-Bay is showing many brand new SB-2's priced at $600 which is way under the prices in post #1. (WAY under -- are they even the same bass?)

I'm shopping for an SB-2(T) model, but for $600, I could buy an SB-2 new and a conversion kit for less than any used SB-2(T) or SB-2 I've found anywhere. Obviously, that's too good to be true, and I was hoping an updated Rocket price list would offer some clues.

Got any enlightenment to dispense? If so, many thanx!

And stay well.

Regards,
Charlie

USA made SB-2s are not selling for $600 new, not even close. What you are seeing are Tribute models made overseas. Greg's prices for USA basses have always been good in my experience, and I have bought several from him. He usually does a bit better than advertised prices for USA models.

Thanx for the huge clue, bhunt1! After further (detailed) review of G&L's web site, I think you're telling me that the Option Order SB-2 does not start from a Tribute (import) SB-2, but instead provides a completely USA-made SB-2. And some consider these 2 to be different models or, at least, significantly different.

Perhaps when Mr. Rocket has the time to update the 2017 prices in post #1, he might provide prices for both the Tribute SB-2 and the Option Order SB-2. I'd like to think that little clue would have been enough for me to catch on. But then, I've been known to over-estimate my intelligence. (Don't take my word for it, ask my wife.)

;->

Many thanx! Stay well!
Lucky Chuck

Sorry for any confusion! G&L's product line is pretty complex at this point... Tributes, Option Order, Fullerton Standard & Deluxe, Custom Shop, etc. This thread is all about the Option Order line, and there's another thread about the Custom Shop line. I don't really do much with Tributes other than order them when people ask me to get one for them (which I'm happy to do).
