G&L Pricing

G&L used to accept a generic "lightweight" request, but they've never really accepted a specific weight range (at least not in the 7-8 years I've been dealing with them). And recently (like in the past 6 months), they've stopped accepting the lightweight requests altogether. I was told their goal now is to make all of them lightweight... but that is not the case.

If you want a specific weight range, you really have two choices.
1) Find a bass that appeals to you in stock at a dealer and inquire about the weight.
2) Let me know what you want, and I can keep my eyes open for something similar. G&L regularly (once or twice a week) publishes a list of available basses, and weights are included in that list.

The basses on the available lists, especially the light ones, tend to go quickly. So you want to be ready to pounce when one shows up.

They definitely feel different to my hands. Gloss is normally tackier feeling to me... until you start sweating, and then it actually gets slicker than satin. Satin just always feels like satin to me, nice and smooth.

Take all that with a grain of salt. I have a strong personal preference for satin. No doubt there are other guys out there who are every bit as in love with the feel of a gloss neck.

I ordered an ASAT a couple years ago with the generic "light" request and it's a feather. It's amazing. About six months later, I ordered a Legacy (same dealer), with the same request, and it was a stone.

G&L's satin is my favorite neck finish. It really does feel like unfinished wood, like old Charvels.

Are there still "hidden" or available but not advertised wiring options, like the K switch on the L series or SB-2 tone pot mod?

The K-Wiring is indeed still available, all day every day. No charge, even.

The tone pot for the SB-2 is only available as a limited edition thing (meaning a dealer has to put together enough orders to make it worth G&L's while to do it). That's been anywhere between 3 and 6 instruments in my experience. We actually did a run here of the SB-2T model last year or the year before, and I'd happily do another if enough folks are interested in making in happen.

I just did an A/B of the 2014 vs. 2015 pricing for an LB-100, with a few options, that I was planning for. Even after factoring in the "new 70% Internet Discount" the difference was 23% more. If you're planning on buying a new G&L, better to do it now. Just FYI........... Ken

Yep, that was about what I calculated. The LB-100 is seeing the most price impact from the new price list, so that's why I just grabbed all 22 LB-100's from G&L's latest available list! Great minds think alike!

I can also still put in special orders at today's prices right up until June 30th, so I expect we'll see a small flurry of special order activity over the next couple/few weeks. Ya'll let me know if you'd like a quote on something... while the quoting is good! :)
