G&L SB-2T Bleg

Yeah, unfortunately none of these is spending any time here...

The SB-2 is a cool sound, sort of in between a typical PJ and a MM sound. When I played these basses, the tone made me want to play Free's "All Right Now".

That signature bass riff that starts @ 2:20 sounds spot on on an SB-2T...

I also found myself thinking "man, this is a HOT P pickup".

Do you mean the volume drop when both pickups are wide open? That's definitely still there. There's no way around it other than to use a buffered preamp like the Audere (which keeps the impedance of one pickup from interacting with the other).

Of if you mean the J being weaker than the P, that is also kind of there, too. That can be tweaked to some degree with pickup height adjustments... and some of it is just perception (less bass content in the J is natural due to placement, but that can make it sound less loud to our ears).

If I did, the weight would be written on the box... I don't recall it being heavy (none of them have been so far), but I don't remember the exact weight.

We all need to give AJ a group hug. Everyone's worst nightmare happened with his Ruby Red Metallic SB-2T. UPS delivered it with a cracked neck. :mad::bawl:

G&L is jumping on making a replacement neck, though, and AJ is being cool enough to wait for that to happen. So kudos and mega-big thanks to AJ!

Some of you may receive your SB-2T's with bubble wrap around the headstock inside the case. After inspecting AJ's case, it's became clear that the headstock actually made contact with the case (probably due to being dropped on the headstock end of the box). I would've hoped that the molding around the body in the G&L case would've prevented that, but that stuff has some give to it and the tolerance isn't super tight to begin with... you just never know how bad a drop a box might take along the way. UPS is really good in my experience, we see very little shipping damage from them. But they did a not so hot job with this one. :bawl:

Yeah, it used to be a big fear for me when I first started doing this. After 5-6 years of shipping (and shipping literally thousands of guitars), this is just the third one that has had any significant damage.

So it happens... but rarely. Which doesn't make ya feel any better, of course, when it's your bass with the broken neck. :D
