I just bought a gk on craigslist. it took me some time to get used to. but I love it now. I don't really care for the gain channel though

Why do some people feel the need to bash someone because they support USA made products? I don't hate the fact that Ampeg is made in whatever Asian country they are made. But I do feel that the fact that GK is manufactured in the US is a positive.

Why do some people feel the need to bash someone because some of their stuff is made in China? And it was not that long ago that GK was making stuff in China, too, and I rarely if ever heard anyone take a potshot at them.

I compared both, but liked the GK features better. The ampeg colored the sound too much.

You're right - G-K is typically pretty reliable gear, Ampeg not so much...

Yup! Your right on reliability, I've had my GK 400 RB for over 20 years and haven't had 1 single problem, it still has the factory fuse...

By the way, I have a couple 30 year old SVTs that are still the cat's ***.

I'm guessing it must be a matter of affordability.

Simple: when G-K made SOME of their stuff overseas, their prices reflected the savings in manufacturer costs, and they didn't jack their prices up on the lines that stayed in the USA...

Ampeg, on the other hand, moved production to Vietnam, then China to cut costs, but didn't pass any of the saving along to their customers... THEN, when they did finally make something domestically, they called it "Heritage", and charged an arm and a leg for it...

Not details or cheap shots.

Both brands are giants and classics.
I'm just glad both have stayed on their own path and that's really due to the engineers!

while you make a good point at least it would have been good a few years ago, it should be noted that at least in my locale, I can pick up an ampeg PF-anything for cheaper than the GK MB equivalent. Not to mention the similar prices on most cabinets.

You sure? My 410HLF + SVT3PRO setup brings out the tone of my Stingray beautifully!

As you can tell, I am an Ampeg man.

Same rig as mine but I play a G&L SB-2 most of the time. Great tones.
