In the GK neo cab lineup. What would pair with a neo 115 iii? I have a pair of them I use with a mb500 and a 1001rb and it just seems to lack something. I am wondering if anyone has paired a 15 with a 212 cabinet to get some of the punch that is lacking currently. I have eq' the heck out of the rig and cannot find that stop your heart mid punch you in the face I am lookin for.

My experience with mixing GK Neo cabs is that it yields a worst-of-both rather than a best-of-both outcome. I recommend two Neo 212s (or the 412). I think the Neo 115 has an "airy"quality that jist does not mesh well with the punch of the Neo 212 or Neo 410. If you plan to mix cabs, do yourself a favor and try the setup out before you buy. Of course, others will have differing opinions. YMMV.

What's your reference point for "punch in the chest" - an 8X10? I haven't found any cabs that do quite what one of those will do, though an elevated 4X10 can get close. Is there some other cab you're thinking about? If so, we could perhaps comment more easily on a comparison. Thx.

See if you could demo the CX cabinets, specifically the 4x10 or 2x10. I recently played through the CX410 using the MB500 and thought it sounded great. Punchy but can be warm as well with some EQ. These seem to be on the lighter side for ceramic speaker cabs as well. I'd imaging a pair of CX210s would be a nice modular setup.

I used my MB500 through a Ampeg HLF 4x10 cabinet. Even at low volumes the bass was low but tight. Sounded great and that is what started me on the quest for something punchier than what I currently have. Thanks for your response. In comparison, and of course in my opinion the GK cabs can get loud, and are clear but don't punch through. I play in a 90's alt rock band for reference, so I am on the quest for a solid green day, blink 182 style bass tone.

I'm not the expert here, but when I played through an HLF it seemed pretty heavy on the low-mids - way heavier than most 410's I'd used. I'm not sure what neo-based cabinet features anything similar to the HLF response profile but maybe others have some ideas.

I really like the idea of lightweight cabinets, or at least my back does. When looking at the rigs of different bass players it seems the majority play RBH GK cabs or Ampeg 8x10 configurations. Maybe lightweight and what I am looking for doesn't exist. Appreciate the response, and maybe someone has conquered the same quest and can chime in. My GK heads I believe deliver the power and eq flexibility, but it isn't translating into the sound I am looking for.

I want to get the MB800 but I'm a bit curious about the MBF800. I love a tube tone but am wary about tube reliability. I guess that can be managed easily enough by carrying an extra pair of tubes to the gig. Besides I have my MB200 as backup!

Does anyone own either the MB500 or MB800 both regular and Fusion versions? What was the big selling point to switching to the Fusion?

There is a bit more "sonic texture" and harmonic content with the Fusion. By contrast, the MB500/800 seem a tad more "centered" and "focused." As far as reliability goes, I have not had any issues with either my MBF500 or MBF800, nor would I expect any.

Developed hiss in the horn amp that neither the horn attenuator nor mute would quell.
My 1001RBII is dead quiet muted.

Contacted Jason at GK customer service who said "send it it, we'll fix it."
Which they did, by replacing 3 pots. I'm not sure which three, but I have part numbers on the receipt if anyone wants to geek out on that.

Nice to have it back to dead quiet.

I still don't use it lots because MBF800 and 1001RBII are both substantially smaller.
I do have a couple of big shows coming up where "big rig on stage" is gonna be appropriate and expected, so it's nice to have it back for those. The 550 on top of a Neo112/212 stack is big stage fodder and it'll look great. And sound great!!!

C, Does that still have motorized knobs? Did that complicate the pot swaps any? Are they a cool feature, do you think? Thx!

Yes it's all still motorized
GK did the work so I can't speak to if that made it harder
It's not a feature I use.
I use one channel and set it up clean and make dynamic changes mostly with right hand technique.
If you would switch between a clean and dirty channel, or need different eq or a "lead boost" then a switchable second channel might be a feature you would actively you.
I could totally live with one channel on both this amp and the mbfusion

Full volume rehearsal last night. We have a pretty loud drummer. MB800 cut through, clear and punchy. A very even response all over the neck, thick but clear, with no compressor.

Precision bass through channel A set flat. Treble 11:00, mids 1:00, bass 11:00, countour off, gain 10:00, master at noon, through a single, 8 ohm Barefaced Super Compact.

I'm still very pleased with the MB800. I can play with a light touch while remaining very present and forceful in the mix.

I have two AudioKinesis H1203's and I tried it with my MB200. Pretty loud for a little guy!
My main amp is a MB500, hoping to get MB800 soon...
