I've thought of starting a "dictionary" thread on here for that exact reason! It can cover terms, shorthand abbreviations, give some example of "plush and round" or "pillowy", etc. I think it would help!

I once spent an enjoyable afternoon listening to a customer and three salespeople checking out overdrive pedals on guitar, and trying to come to a consensus on how they described the way they sounded.

Salesman A (playing a riff): "See, that's nice and chunky."

Salesman B (plugs in a different pedal): "No way, man. That's ballsy. Now THIS is chunky."

Salesman C: ....

In the end, the customer bought a phase shifter. I kid you not.

That's not what everyone is referring to when they're talking about "matched" cabs. In your case, having "matched" cabs would mean having two 410s or two 118s, not just two 8ohm cabs. If you have two of the same cabs, the chances are pretty good that they will work together and sound good. That's not always the case, but more often times than not, two identical cabs will sound better than two cabs that have different sized drivers.

Conversely, just because the science says that mismatched cabs will, more than likely, not sound all that great, your 410 & 118 mismatch might sound awesome. And since you already own them, makes sense to give them a try. Just be aware, it might sound awesome to just you...

Thanks. Before my Crate decided to morph into a boat anchor last weekend, I ran both cabinets and it sounded well enough, granted that it was a Crate and the original drivers, which are still in the cabinets, aren't the greatest. However, I may consider retiring the 1x18 in favor of another 4x10 if I can swing it, having only enough room in the budget presently for the head, which will not be a Gallien-Krueger, but an Ampeg PF800.

It's not about the sound of the "mismatched" cabinets everyone is concerned with.
Yes, lots of people run similar setups.
It's just that chances are the 18 will fail well before the 410 even gets going, as the 410 can handle more power than the 18.
Put the 18 on top of the 410 so you can hear if it is struggling.

Really brief version of a true story.
Hanging around watching another bass player friend of mine track a session with the producer. After laying down several versions of a pretty decent bassline (IMO) that didn't please the producer, who would say things like "that's not quite it, etc" the producer finally just yells "play it MORE PURPLE."

So. Yeah.
Words for music can be like dancing for architecture.

Just ordered a NEO 112-II and a MB Fusion... Eventually I'm going to get a second 112, but until that this is going to be my bedroom rig...

Already have a 1001RB-II and two NEO 115-III's with my other band and a first gen MB210 combo with the other. I could've just bought a secondhand 210MBE (to go doom with the combo) and a MB200 for the bedroom and then haul the MBE between rehearsal place and home, but first gen used 210MBE's are nowhere to be found in Finland... So there's some good reasoning behind the now empty wallet.

It has a nice punchy. Obviusly it sounds brighter than the paper speakers, but to me isn´t sounds so brighter like Hartke´s speakers do, and I find it loudest as Hartke too. It deliver´s 99 dB, hard enough for me (and for my band´s mate too ). I never had too many problems to get a fat tone to go low, so I don´t miss too much an extra 15" speaker.

I'm a little perplexed as to why you've put it into a large rack, when it fits so nicely in a gigbag's string pouch, though. Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose?

Close. It's an HT210S. The MB800 loves 4ohms, but so does the MB200.

It is an amazing little amp. So "big" sounding.
That's actually not a large rack. It's a small Aguilar 3 space rack bag. Now I have 800 watts, power surge protection with outlets, 1 free rack space (just in case I put the wireless in there), and a pouch for cables & small pedals, all at just over 20 lbs. Very convenient.

Hey. I think it's a great, modular, portable rig. I like the way it sounds. I get just enough at ear level to be able to monitor the 112. I believe both Mr. Gallien and our own Chef have used the 112/212 stack with good results. That's part of the reason I went that route. Having said that, I'm going to be adding a second 212. Why? The 112 is fantastic on its own, and great with the 212, but I really just want a bit "more". My main gigging band has never been accused of being too quiet, and I just feel like I'm on the brink of pushing the 112 to it's limit.

I'd say that if your volume needs are "reasonable" or slightly above, the 112/212 combo is a winner! I still rate it as a "highly effective" stack...
