Sorry he is mistaken, there are differences in almost each head. To say the tube front end of the Fusion 550 is the same as the 800RB fully SS is just an extreme example. G-K changed the EQ points in rev.05 of the MB2-500. Rev.06 was for ease of production, don't know about rev.07.

I went back and checked, they changed the gain structure in the EQ. The change was actually driven by members on Talk Bass! Bob Gallien made the change to not be so low end heavy with the EQ set at noon. So I mis-spoke about "EQ points". RAG listened to members here and made the changes to accommodate! :bassist: :cool:

Edit: I found it. A01 was the update that changed the EQ. A00, set at noon, had more bass (or less mid, but the effect is the same).

I thought I remember it being said that they changed the low
end eq (when set flat) the same as having the five string
push button out instead of in, so the low end is more like the
800rb. Since there is no five string button option, they had to
set the low eq to either the button being in or out. I could be
wrong about this. Maybe Brian can clarify this.

you know i have both the mb2500 and 800rb right now and to my ears... the mb2 has the lowend i wanted out of the 800rb while still keeping a really tight lowend that i like about gk's.

Avoiding a needless bout of seller's regret would be one reason to keep a classic bass amp like your 800RB.

Other reasons would include: a backup head; or additional wattage for larger venues; or for use as part of a rehearsal rig.

BTW. Nostalgia's value appreciates with age... ;)

well i have a carvin b1500 and with having an mb2500... both amps pretty much kill my 800rb in the wattage department.. i also dont like using a different amp during rehearsal :)
i seriously havent turned it on for more then a few min in over a year.. i think i can do well without it.

I am taking a minute to write this in hopes that when I try to turn my MB2-500 on again everything is fine:(. Enjoying this lazy day after Thanksgiving and I decided to hook up and play a little through my MB2-500 / GK212II rig:bassist:. Set it up, turned it on and when I went to plug in my bass the power light went from blue to red and then went out:confused:. Seemed like the amp was still working fine but this can't be good:eyebrow:. Powered down the amp and then turned it back on. Light comes on red and then goes out, amp stays on:bawl:. One thing I noticed is that when working right the light first comes on more of a magenta than red and then turns blue after passing self testing:confused:. This time it came on very red and then went out:scowl:. Gonna go try again. Wish me luck:rolleyes:!

The wonderful wizard of GK. Looks like I'll be contacting Noli at Gk yet again. Tried several more times powering the amp on and off and each time the power light comes on red (not magenta) and then goes out. Amp seems to work fine (played it for a few seconds) but it can't be something good. The manual covers if the light comes on red and stays red but nothing about what I am experiencing. Anyone else have the same problem? Guess I am glad that I saved my shipping box and that GK rocks at the warranty repair and customer service thing.
