Geddy Lee Sansamp Pedal!

No I do not think they received those yet but they seem to have sold all in advance. I do not know this for a fact as in did not call them and ask and don't work for them or anything. It is simply how it looks. And similar has happened to items I have been watching before.

Thomann confirmed today they have not received the pedals by the date Tech21 promised.
So they have not sold out or been shipped to anyone.
Issue is with Tech21 not hitting the orders they have.
Which sucks!

First the book, now the pedal... I'm thinking the demand for Geddy Lee Boxer Briefs™ will too outstrip the supply...

... cue the burlesque tune.

If it's a whole line, think of the Rush songs that double as names of specific designs:
Working Man (extra breathability)
Limelight (sexytime silk)
Bravado (sexytime silk in garish colors)
Ghost of a Chance (Seasonal release. For those who are intimately lonely on Halloween)
Leave That Thing Alone (it's an everlast!)
The Fountain of Lamneth (just has the lyrics printed on it)
La Villa Strangiato (has an electronic recording of Tim Gunn saying "Make it work," although the names of the different movements could be a line unto themselves)

I should probably stop now

I haven't owned one myself, but from sound demos I'm not into what the dUg pedal does. From my impression the dUg has more of a "baked in" sound where the YYZ is more neutral and transparent in character. That's a similar reason for why I drifted away from Darkglass stuff because I wasn't digging "that" sound over time. Maybe I'm talking nonsense, but that's my take at describing my experience.

Nah, that's not nonsense. The dUg is more highly colored -- I happen to LOVE that coloration, especially with my P-style basses. Same goes with the Darkglass B7K (mid-notched in a different way).

I checked out the YYZ pedal in person at a stomp box show that Tech 21 was at last week. Pedal sounds like Geddy tone, but I found the grit to be too heavy. I only really liked the tone when the drive was turned almost off or off. The pedal had a really nice full and rich sound that I enjoyed, but seemed like half the box would be wasted on me since the grit was just too gritty.

I was not really interested in the pedal but figured I'd check it out and overall was more impressed with it then I expected to be. I also plugged into some of the fly boards and the dUg was NOT for me at all. It's overall default voice was not the kind of tone I seek.

I'd got curious and impatient so I went to the store and spent time with the GED-2112. As soon as I heard that "gritty grit" I was relieved. I was afraid it might get lost in the mix, need parallel preamps running into 2 amps, or require a Rickenbacker, and etc. but the sound is there. Its like the DP-3X and will cut through without sounding like high shelved gravel. Also impressed with how natural and responsive it is. I agree with Gefilter1001, and everyone's sound clips and demos are true to the sound. Looking forward to the YYZ, and I've been informed that I'm inline to get one as the first batch becomes available

There is a mod that will combine the output of the GED-2112 so you can use a single amp. This is how I use it with my setup

They are working hard to fulfill the high demand, hang tight!

what are you currently using? I'm thinking that I may have the same thoughts as you here.

In general I'm not a huge sansamp guy though I can really appreciate them for what they are...I'm just not a grit guy. I tend to go for a cleaner more modern sound and like to inject some tubes somewhere. I have a slew of preamps, but they ultimately end up in a Broughton Problem Solver (similar to the Messenger) or P15 to a poweramp. I can get down with some light buzz for a vintage vibe or straight up distortion (I'm a Tube Screamer style fan) to emulate guitar or create a wall of sound w germanium fuzz, but Geddy's modern sound is not my bag at all. It works great for him, and I can have fun plugging into it, but it's not a flavor I'd turn to often.

Tried it out at the local L&M through a Bergantino rig.

Some quick thoughts on the YYZ pedal:

Given that I don't know the sound of the rig very well and was not playing my own basses, I wasn't totally sure what I was hearing from the pedal. That said, it definitely does not have nearly as much of a baked-in sound as the DP-3X. It it possible to get it sounding fairly neutral, with perhaps a little coloration. I didn't have the manual, so I just tried playing around with the knobs and was able to find a variety of tones I liked, including some that were reminiscent of Geddy's Moving Picture's era tone when I played a Jazz bass. Overall, I thought it was cool, but it didn't leave me with a "MUST BUY NOW!" impression... but I'd probably have to try it through my own rig with my own basses to really get a good idea of its potential.

Ha. Not long ago someone was asking for grittier YYZ demos.
