Geddy Lee Sansamp Pedal!

Here's a little demo of the new GED-YYZ

I wanted this pedal, now I need it.

Would it play nicely along this? Behringer MicroMON MA400 1-Ch Monitor Headphone Amplifier

Thinking of a small practice setup, GED into the XLR input (with an appropriate cable and gain staging of course), phone or MP3 into the line input, and my preferred pair of headphones. I was also looking at one of the Rolls units, but this is cheaper. Also, I doubt there is a Rolls seller here in Chile.

Love that sound BUT... I still wonder how it sounds in front of an amp, used as a stomp box and not as a preamp. You see, I use 2 amps : an SVT-CL and my practice kit consisting of a TC Electronics BG250 set flat preceded by a SansAmp RBI.

Now, my use of the YYZ pedal would be to plug it in front of either one of these kits to get that great overdrive sound.

My experience with using the RBI in front of the SVT for overdrive isn’t all that great. With lots of tweaking, it sounded good, but a bit too compressed (tubes+tube emulator). I’m worried that same phenomenon would happen with the YYZ in front of either the RBI or the SVT.

Any demos before an amp yet?

is the "deep" just a plain ol' clean blend or is a fat compressed tone like the DP-3 or the X7?

This video from the Tech21 website has a very brief section at about the 35-sec mark where the Deep side is isolated. To my ears the Deep channel sounds pretty clean, just with some top end rolled off slightly.

I don't think having a completely full-range (top end included) clean signal on the Deep side would blend as nicely with the Drive side. I think having a wide open top end on the clean channel would actually tend to produce a strident tone when blended in with the upper-mid bite of the Drive channel. IMO, of course.

I don't know about the pedal, I have a 2112 and the deep channel is pretty clean, some compression, but really working the tube emulation hard, not breaking up at all, but really driving hard. Lots of punch and girth. Layer on some OD from the Drive channel and the magic starts.

I'm liking the way the Deep channel sounds in the video - I hope the pedal version sounds relatively the same. I know there's a Saturation level on the GED 2112 Deep Channel and I'm sure a choice/decision had to be made to address that in the pedal version. In other words, hard-fix the Saturation level or omit it entirely.

EDIT: I believe I saw over in the Tech21 Club thread that there will be a slight, fixed amount of Saturation (per Geddy's personal favorite setting) built into the Deep side of the YYZ pedal.

The "Deep" on the new pedal was explained in one of the videos posted earlier in this thread.

It's not a clean signal, as I recall, rather it's Geddy's preferred effected sound which you can then change via the controls.

While we're waiting on more info or samples, have you Geddy tone fans heard this?

Good facsimile, IMO, especially given it's a P bass, treble is rolled off on the pedal, and the signal from the pedal is DI'd.

Video is cued to the short section that's relevant here.

@Gefilter1001 , great playing.

How do you have one of these already?

Any chance you'd post a demo of various settings vs. clean signal for comparison?

What you've posted doesn't give me any idea what the pedal does, esp. if not planning to do Rush covers with a J bass.

That's not a criticism, just an observation. I do appreciate the effort.

Thank you! I am lucky enough to be working with Tech 21 and was graciously loaned the pedal. I am currently on the west coast for a show, but when I return I will dial in a few things for comparison.
