I'm building something like that right now.
The only difference no pickgaurd and chrome hardware.

Fender CS neck with big light blocks
Black Ash body

Geddy and Alex just participated in a live chat via Spreecast and the Wall Street Journal. One of the questions was about Geddy's new Surf Green bass - would he consider doing a Fender Signature model?

Geddy's response was that he thought that was an interesting idea and said that he really digs the bass, he loves the color and also the sound - that it has pretty much become his #2 behind the "tried and true" black one. His first thought was maybe as a limited run? Off the cuff, obviously. But he wanted to "run it up the flagpole" with Fender.

Neat, huh?

That really is cool. Would go against everything Fender believes in as far as bass colors nowdays, but we can hope. :)

OK, just to clarify things a bit. I recently watched a live concert video and Geddy has a habit of frequently letting his plucking hand fall down around the control plate during sustained notes. So, no he's not twiddling any knobs when he does that.

Watch any live concert footage and you'll see what he's doing.

That must be a different bass. I have photos from that show and he has the matching peg and pearl blocks.

Although to coincide with the previous response on this, I will believe it when I see it. One question I would have is if it would be pearl blocks or black blocks. I'd prefer black, but that wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.

I disagree. You can have a perfectly balanced bass, setup to your liking with all high-end components that you've spent a pretty penny on, and a clueless thief at one of your gigs or wherever you leave it, may grab the guitar instead of your yard sale looking bass. :)

I know for awhile they came with ceramic magnet pickups, same as on Squires. I don't know if they still do or if the older ones did? This never made since to me?

I saw Rush tonight in Ft. Lauderdale and he indeed does have a new bass. He played his trusty black one most of the show. He also played his surf green discussed here, for two or three songs. But he also now has a relic'd Olympic white JB, very, very nice. It has dot inlays. He seemed to like playing it and it sounded great!
