Looked kinda iffy right off the bat. Evidently my "gut reaction meter" was right on target for that.
Well, the binding is painted on, maybe I'll use silver paint for the 24th

A bit off topic but there's audio material to be found on youtube of Paul Stanley's autobiography and he describes the day he and Gene commissioned the matching Lobue instruments.
And also that the rehearsal space was broken into and that the Lobue guitar was stolen.
He says that he really wants that guitar back because of it being the very first custom guitar that was made for him.

Did a little more today. Drilled and then routed the control cavity. Routed the square hole for the mudbucker. Drilled the wiring channel into the control cavity. Drilled the tuner holes. Remembered to drill the bridge ground for once. Did some sanding and the the round over on the top and bottom. Cut the pickup hole in the pick guard and did the mandatory mock-up. It look like I’ll need just over one degree on the neck to line up with the bridge saddle nicely.
Did you have to trim the pick up cover down a little bit? I found with the ones I have done, the pick up cover sticks up a little too far for my liking, as it is made to be mounted to a body without a pick guard
Well, the cover will be mounted directly to the guitar top, the pickguard fits over it. Doesn't look like it'll be a problem.
I hereby declare fabrication complete.

Way cool but I have to ask, what is that Gretsch style guitar on the right of your bass?
It's based off the double cut Gretsch 6120 profile, I built it a few years ago and it has my first playable neck. I've gone back a few times over the years as I learned more and slowly beat it into shape and it's quite playable now. Even stays in tune!
Let me say I really don't like doing solid colors, God put grain patterns in wood for a reason.

If you don’t mind sharing, what is your step-by-step process for paint and finish? Especially addressing the open grain in mahogany.
I use Timber Mate grain filler then a shellac sanding sealer. In this case I used a hi-build sandable primer, wetsanded it (went through that twice) and then used the black which is also a primer. If it passes inspection, then I'll paint the binding on and then do 8 coats of nitro clear.
