Gene Simmons LoBue Tribute Build

It's been fun watching you build them.

For all who want to rock n roll all nite and party everyday and are not afraid to show.

Seeing that bass makes me envision Gene standing there with the blood running from his mouth before launching into "100 000 years."

I was asked to build a LoBue replica as played by Mr. Simmons.
To be honest I'd never heard of it before. I saw the Spector build @bassgod76 was doing and asked him a few questions, he has been really helpful and suggested I put the build thread into this one which is dedicated to them.

It'll be all mahogany construction with rosewood fretboard.

I got the body rough cut out today:

Can't resist a quickie mockup

Going with the Schaller roller bridge as suggested to get the strings to line up with the pole pieces.

Cutting frets to size this morning.

Fretboard radius is 12” so I adjust the bender until it makes 12” circles (or semi circles).

Followed by a light filing of each slot top.

And then this handy little thing. It lets you know if the fret slot is deep enough. Also lets you know if there’s some crud down in the slot that blowing out won’t move.

Sometimes the packed in sawdust requires more radical efforts to move.

Headed out to the cold garage to press this in.
