GENZ BENZ Focus Cabs - New and Lightweight

The Focus 1x12 is 4 lbs lighter than one of my old Live Series 112s, and both use ceramic magnets. I like the front porting of both, too. What I am not too fond of is the fact that the Focus's porting is on the bottom, and open, since that allows for the possibility of rodent invasion. Add in the fact that both new and old are rated at 200w for each cab, and I have ample reason to not spend my money. The heaviest piece of gear that I have is my GBE400 in a 2-space case, coming in at 45 lbs, and pushing 330w into my pair of LS112Ts. It's plenty loud enough. What's really desired is a Shuttle 3.2 with a 400w @ 4ohms power output. I have looked at the SWR Headlite as an option, but have been a loyal Genz-only player since 1999. Are you listening, Genz Benz?

If you're making a comparison to other commercial cabs on wattage ratings, please remember that Genz is pretty honest and generally conservative in their ratings. I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if these held up as well or better than many 300-watt rated cabs on the market.

Rodents? Where do keep your equipment?

The Focus arrived this morning (7:34am...) via FedEx from The Perfect Bass.

Looks great and it's nice and light. But, I've already got one small issue with the Streamliner/Focus combo--the handle on top of the focus is taller than the feet on the bottom of the Streamliner. :hmm:

So, the head can't sit flat on the cabinet. And, there is an audible rattle from the metal handle brackets on the bottom of the Streamliner.

So, I'll have to put a mousepad, or something, underneath the head. Seems kind of silly.

I'm not going to play it until I get it set up since I don't want anything to get scratched. It's not the end of the world. I'm more surprised by it than anything.

When reviewing pix of the Focus 112 online, I noticed a possibility of the handle being too tall for the shuttle/streamliner amps. Sad to see it is indeed a problem. Not a deal breaker, but less than ideal. A simple solution for GB moving forward would be to relocate the handle to the side.

I figure I'll run to the hardware store and replace the original feet with something a little taller. Like you said--not a deal breaker. But, it seems like an oversight. I can think of 50 worse oversights. I'm probably going to order another cab tomorrow from The Perfect Bass. That's how much it bothers me. :D

The GB website shows a Shuttle apparently sitting comfortably on top of two Focus 12s. Do Shuttles have taller feet? Odd.

Nope. The feet are very shallow. If you look at the pic closely, you can see the shuttle is balancing on top of the cab strap. As far as removing the feet from your streamliner, I believe they pull out rather than having screws. You might want to consider some stick-on feet to increase the height of those already installed by GB? Agree with Bassmonkeee that it is not a massive error, but considering how well thought out all GB gear is, it seams an unexpected oversight.

Of course if they did something as logical as that, people would complain that the logo is sideways.

So, I took some new pictures of my Focus cab with my Streamliner. The tone is verything I want. My main rig over the last four years has been a Shuttle 6.0-12T. I wanted something with a little more grit and wool to the tone. The Streamliner has the tone in my head, and the Focus cab seems capable of putting out what the Streamliner puts in.

As I mentioned in my first post about the Focus, the feet on the SL600 are too short to clear the handle on top of the cab. I had an Amazon gift card left over from my birthday, so I spent too much money on some 2" IsolateIt! Sorbothane Hemispheres. :D

The head clears just fine now.

Loving the rig. I will miss the kickback stand on the bottom of the Shuttle, but I can always get something for the same effect.
