Just curious, Andy: Would simply replacing the Eminence drivers in my NeoX with those manufactured by Faital upgrade it to an NX-2 equivalent?
I'm not interested in buying another cabinet right now, but Ed Friedland's video review of the NX2 (which he released about 3 months after I bought the NeoX) left me wondering whether a few mods would make the NeoX sound even better.
Gigged my recently acquired NX2-212T last night with an Aguilar Tone Hammer 500. Was very happy with my tone, but when I pushed the cab, by cranking the bass on the Tone Hammer there was what might have been a smell of something overheating from the cab.
Not sure what is going on here. Any ideas folks?

The Tonehammer is not bass-shy! You are probably putting too much into the cab, (especially low end). It is a great 2x12 but it is only a 2x12, so you may need more in terms of cab.
I am going to make do with the Genz cab and relax a little on the Bass heavy EQ. I wonder which component was overheating within the cab?
I agree that the cab is not too bass heavy. I use it with the Streamliner 900, which is boomy or "woofy" as described by some, and it sounds fine. I prefer it with my Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0, which is not as bass-heavy, nor as warm but punchy and clear. I was gigging out several times a week last year and the cab was great for 90% of the gigs.
Do you put a lot of distortion/dirt through the cab? Just a thought...a lot of tweeters dislike a lot of distortion and this can lead to this.
It could also be the speakers generating a lot of heat. Maybe ask the Genz engineers?

No I don't use any distortion. I play in a loud rock act at the weekends without P.A. support so I am asking a lot from the cab. In fairness the cab is impressive ,but it is replacing a 2 cab set up (2x10 and 1x15 Markbass) so i am probably missing a little of what was on offer from that 15 cab.

Sorry I missed this... nope, the tuning is different as is the net box volume IIRC.
I miss my old Shuttle. Never ran it with the NX2-212T but it was great through my former Bergantino HS210. Also wanna try a Streamliner through the NX2. The Walkabout sounds great!

I have continued to push this cab and it never fails. Whatever that smell was is now gone. Super piece of kit.

I gig my NX2 212T often with either my Streamliner 900 or Shuttle 9.2 w/Am St P5 w/nylon tapes. I always enjoy my tone with either. I don't get PA support in a TX blues band and I've used this setup at outdoor gigs. Never had an issue with this rig but I've never pushed it into speaker breakup or distort, even when I dig in hard. And I feel that band can get loud, what with guitard and keytard, pushing their lows some. But I know volume is relative/subjective. THough I feel I've cranked this rig pretty good and its' always sounded pretty great. Maybe OP should open cab up and sniff the inside of cab and look inside as well to see if he spots any burnt wiring, wires hanging against drivers, etc.

The Burning smell is no longer there so I will leave well enough alone. anyway, opening the cab may well interfere with warranty. i originally bought 2 of these beasts in case I ever wanted to go down to 2 ohms, but just one of these cabs will give me all the volume I will ever need. The other cab is up for sale. Totally super cab!
It really is a super cab, I love it. I also have the Strealiner 900 and it sounds fantastic through the GB cab. The portability is key with me, after the quality of the sound; for the money I think this 2x12 combo works perfectly. Now I just need more gigs....
